Thanks for the reply. I was also thinking that it's cutting it a bit too close. There's a 500W version as well -- it's twice a thick but I can fit it, I was just just wondering if I could get away with the thinner one and save some space.
Would like to use the HDPlex GAN 250W in a SFF NAS/Server build I'm planning, but unsure if it'll be enough. Would like your feedback.
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 Pro 5650G ("65W")
Mobo: AMD B550
RAM: 2x32GB DDR4-3200 ECC
GPU: NVIDIA Quadro p400 (for NVENC only)
NIC: Intel 82599EN (10GbE using DAC SFP+)...
Sorry, I was confused about the 3rd slot you had mentioned - it's new. Let me check my understanding:
In Tiny6/7, the PCIe is already bifurcated to provide 8x4x4x where 8x is directed to the PCIe slot, and the 4x4x are directed to the two rear NVME slots. The riser would provide access to the...
Oh, interesting. So you mean you wouldn't need a custom riser to get the 3rd M2 slot? the m90q Gen2 (Tiny7) supports 11th gen core CPUs so that may be a fine option for me if I can get the IGP sharing across LXCs working.
Still, I'd miss the 4th M2 slot. :(
Thank you for the information. I did not know that. What a shame. Especially since there's a big leap in IGP performance from 10th to 11th gen, but for some reason 11th gen (rocket lake) has neither SR-IOV or GTV-g.
Oddly, tiger lake (11th gen mobile) has SR-IOV. Come on, Intel.
I was...
I'd like a Lenovo Tiny with a relatively newer CPU (Intel 12th Gen would be great - looks like M90Q Gen3 would fit the bill) but I'd like to mod it to be able to use all of the PCIe lanes. I'm wondering if there are any newer tinys that are known to have pbie bifurcation mods with compatible...
Thanks for the additional information about your setup.
I was thinking to put the M.2->SATA adapter in the side of the bifurcation card facing the CPU. Do you think there would be enough clearance for the SATA connectors in that position? (I guess yes but I always appreciate second opinions!)...
My current thought is that I would create a setup similar to louie1961's.
CPU: Ryzen 5 Pro 5650GE
Motherboard: Gigabyte B550I Aorus Pro AX ITX
RAM: 2x32GB PC-3200 ECC UDIMM
Case: Node 304 (I really like the Jonsbo N3, but the airflow is supposedly not great, and I only have 6 HDDs and will use...
Thanks for the reply. PCI bifurcation is a "new" technology to me and I hadn't considered it when formulating my original plan, but it does seem like it might solve my problems if I can figure out the splitter/riser issue.
Regarding "unofficial" -- I misspoke. I had seen some posts (which I...
@louie1961
Thanks for the detailed reply. That's a really interesting PCIe bifurcation riser and usage -- thanks for sharing!
What is your Proxmox OS and VMs installed on? I guess what I'm curious about is how you're using those 8 SSDs. :)
It means that the slots themselves support PCIe cards with larger "plugs" (i.e. the physical size), but they will only work at lower speeds as found on the smaller size slots because not all of the pins in the larger slot are actually connected to the CPU (i.e. electrically limited).
You can...
This is actually a pretty sweet motherboard: 4x PCIe 16x slots (1x PCIe4, 3x PCIe3) and 2 M.2 slots (1x PCIe4 4x, 1x PCIe 4x) and 8 onboard SATA connectors at $150 new. Wow. Assuming it supports ECC memory that is really nice.
You could put in an Intel ARC for decoding (and, if your software...
Hello everyone, I'm looking for some advice on a new homeserver build.
I've been running an Atom C3558 mITX board from SuperMicro for the last 6 years, and an Atom D525 (also SuperMicro mITX) for 7 years before that. The C3558 is definitely starting to show its age, with CPU loads getting...
If you message Qotom on AliExpress, they'll tell you which SSD and RAM brand/model you'll get. As I recall, it varies depending on the size and options you choose (i.e. yes/no ECC).
I was able to get a 10G RJ45 SFP adapter working in the system and wanted to share what I've learned for the benefit of others.
(Please refer to earlier discussions in the thread about why many RJ45 SFP adapters don't work.)
One user in this thread has told me they use this FlexOptix adapter...
Thank you for the information, I was quite unaware. I will go back and read the entire thread from the beginning.
Oh, I would love to ditch the copper. However, I'm in exactly the situation that Vivien describes:
I don't think my ISP provides an SFP-ONU for 10G connections (it seems they only...
