    SlimSAS to U.2 newbie question

I used similar cables - PCIe Gen4 4X to . Adapter,- 38P to - 68P Cable with Power, 75CM Amazon.com with ASUS motherboard to connect U.2 SSD to the SlimSAS 4X and it worked fine. Don’t know why SuperMicro cable wouldn’t work.

CPU+mobo for LLM inference offloading from 2x3090

Usually when people looking for server platforms they assume large amount of RAM and at least a possibility of the hybrid inference. I just finished building my new LLM rig and still in process of optimizing it. I will definitely do a hybrid inference using CUDA and ZenDNN optimized modules. But...

CPU+mobo for LLM inference offloading from 2x3090

I do not think this mbw command shows the correct picture. I mean if you get 22800 on dual channel DDR5 6000 and I get 24300 on 12 channel DDR5 5600 - that’s just doesn’t add up to anything useful. Ok, after some digging i found out the mbw is basically the single thread application so all you...

ASRock Rack SP5 nightmare: 2 motherboards, 2 EPYC 9254s, 2 PSUs, still no host power

I cannot say for ASRock - but i do have Supermicro motherboard (H14-SSL-NT to be precise) and it does not POST with memory slower than 5600. With known working 4800 it does power on but POST does not start - even BMC does not come online.

Do engineering sample LGA 4189 CPUs work on Supermicro X12 motherboards?

Are you in US by any chance? I have couple of spare QWM3 laying around that I can share but with all this tariff crap I only can send stuff within the US. It’s QS of 8352Y so it works at least on Tyan and ASRock motherboards with latest stock BIOS.

    Gigabyte MZ33-AR1 pci slot

The problem is: in two upper slots the card will hit the CPU cooler so it totally depends on the size of the cooler, and the two lower slots there is a heat spreader even before the DIMM slots that will interfere. So whatever card you are planning to use - if it is any longer than the PCIe x16...

Intel ES CPU QYG3 Motherboard Recommendation

Also with modded BIOS: Tyan S5652, sometimes can be found pretty cheaply.

Supermicro H14SSL-NT: No POST with ES CPU

Technically still ES :) But yes, stepping matters - as usual.

Supermicro H14SSL-NT: No POST with ES CPU

Hmm. I was able to run H14SSL-NT with the ES CPU, BIOS 1.7. Although HWiNFO lies about the clocks, it only gets to 4.1GHz. I would love it to get to 10GHz but oh well...

ASUS Pro WS W790E-SAGE SE + Intel Xeon Sapphire Rapids SPR-SP

First of all - you will not see new bios version in BMC until system fully gets through the POST process - it’s BIOS who updated BMC with the version string not the other way around. The 00 means system did not recognize the CPU and refuses to power it up. Either CPU is damaged or you have a...

    ES Xeon Discussion

Do you know if there is an application like one i used to edit the BIOS menu items in the times of X99 chipset? I think it was called AMI Editor or something? I'm trying to find a way to enable Resizable Bar support in Tyan BIOS. Is there a version that works with the new BIOS format?

I do not have one yet :( But with the standard BIOS the QYFS was a no go so i'm optimistic.

I installed the provided BIOS on my S5652 AGM3NRE-2T, it works and it added ES support - here's a screenshot of HWInfo64 with QYFS installed:

They only work on a small set of motherboards and these are fairly expensive.

Findings with Asrock W790-WS, Xeon SPR-SP D0, and BCLK OC (and lack thereof)

ASRock W790 (original, not cheaper v.2) has separate clock for PCIe which allows higher BCLK overclocking without rendering modern GPU or NVMe drives inoperable.

ASUS Pro WS W790E-SAGE SE + Intel Xeon Sapphire Rapids SPR-SP

Totally different use cases. ASUS board is expensive but can run pretty cheap ES variants of Sapphire Rapids like the famous QYFS 8480 D0. This processor can be purchased for like $100-$200 now. ASRock Rack on the other hand is cheaper but it will not work with these cheap processors so you will...

ASUS Pro WS W790E-SAGE SE + Intel Xeon Sapphire Rapids SPR-SP

He’s not ranting. Memory controller is part of the CPU . By forcing it work outside of the specified parameters you are overclocking it. I do run 9480 D0 with memory overclock but I have a tray of 4 spare processors in case I fry one or two. When I will only have two left I will stop playing...

Regarding (a) I wonder if there is version of AMI bios editor that is compatible with this bios file so we can re-enable the bios menu items for memory speed settings.

Reset my supermicro motherboard with a running truenas scale?

You can use ipmitool in truenas shell.
