i found out the QS samples have the same base, but only boost to 3.8ghz instead of 5ghz. this kinda puts a damper on this. yes it's better than my current cpu, but most of my gains would come from avx 512, the additional cores, and the extra L2 / newer architecture and not much from the clock rate

well if I go 4 sticks of 64GB I'd come out with the same memory bandwidth that I started with, and I'd basically break even on price. if I went 16 cores I'd almost certainly have to populate both sockets to get the performance I need and then I'm buying more ram sticks anyway

yes a 4u will hold the tallest, but my card would still hit the cpu and ram behind the slot, which means I need a flexible riser, which means it actually has to sit above the pcie slot instead of inside it
because my gpu and even some of my addin cards are too long, they would hit the cpu or ram if I didn't use a riser, also my case is only 2U, so they are also too tall. too long and too tall means I'm stuck with jank unless I do something drastic
