Weird one. Workstation dropping to a crawl with very little running. Not overheating, No big load.

Thanks for the reply. No VROC. The SATA controller is disabled in BIOS as I am only using NVME drives. No VROC Intel drives are loaded.

Weird one. Workstation dropping to a crawl with very little running. Not overheating, No big load.

Thanks for replying. Previously yes, after the rebuild no. Got hit again with the slowdown. Grabbed some screenshots with stats. The network is 10% (its 10G) but it's worth noting that the program using the nic was running for 2 1/2 hours and the system went back to normal for some time...

Weird one. Workstation dropping to a crawl with very little running. Not overheating, No big load.

Hi all, I have a PC built around a ASUS WS790-ACE MB, an Intel w5-2455 CPU, 64GB Ram (6000MHz), various NVME drives (via onboard controller) and a RTX4070-Ti. It generally runs fine but now and then (once a week or after 2 days etc), it will bog down and run at a speed where it takes 5-10...

Best Nextcloud alternatives for self hosted family storage ?.

I have finally got Nextcloud up and running at home, running on a Proxmox server and utilising Docker compose. This sits behind my home lab reverse proxy server (Nginx Proxy Manager) along with some other apps on other servers. The infra side of things works well. I am finding Nextcloud a bit...

Proxmox install issue on Intel NUC 10.

Hi, Looking for some advice on how to get around my current issue trying to install Proxmox on my Nuc 10. The Nuc is known good as it has been working as my HTPC for a while but gets little use these days so I am repurposing it to a virtulisation host and though I would give Proxmox a go. I...

So, I just secured a NIB A4000 Ada SFF...

I got a A4500 from the same online market and it has been pretty good (it's essentially a 3080 with 20Gb vram and only around 240w). Mine was a Dell server pull and the pic was of a card, rather than a stock / generic photo. Seller seemed to be a small video studio. Price was around $1k but...

CPU importance in LLM usage in a machine with a good GPU ?.

As per the title... I am spec'ing a machine for running (not training - I have another machine for that) a LLM and have a GPU for the heavy lifting but have having issues finding information on how much budget should be put on the CPU for this type of system. Does the CPU just handle normal...

Mini HTPC with Thunderbolt for QNAP DAS connection (Getting reboots on multi-GB file transfers with current setup).

Yes, agreed. It never rains but it pours comes to min.... One of the disks (HGST DC HC520 12TB) is a bit clicky, which is a concern. My other disks were a lot less noisy when copying the data. TrueNAS is up and running and data is copied over. Looks like this will be the solution for the...

Strange issue with Ubiquiti Nano HD WAPs after Mikrotik switch change.

Update: Tried factory reset (via the WAPs). Press and hold reset --> Solid white ring --> no light --> flashing white light --> blue light. Removed from unify (Remove option). Adopted. IP had changed but all other setting were the same as before reset. Same on both WAPs.

Strange issue with Ubiquiti Nano HD WAPs after Mikrotik switch change.

I am seeing a strange issue with my 2 Ubiquiti Nano HD WAPs. I have a network cabinet and a server rack and had a link between them (10g fibre). Network cabinet The WAPs were working fine. I changed to After a little playing around, most of the networking is working fine apart from the...

Mini HTPC with Thunderbolt for QNAP DAS connection (Getting reboots on multi-GB file transfers with current setup).

Sooo..... Tried Unraid but whilst I could mount the NTFS disk and then copy some data over, it still failed after around 20 minutes. The 17h parity setup (2x 14TB drives for parity) has put me off. The server I have is also pretty noisy reducing any Wife acceptance factor. I decided to move...

Mini HTPC with Thunderbolt for QNAP DAS connection (Getting reboots on multi-GB file transfers with current setup).

Thanks, I have been playing with Unraid all afternoon and have finally got an array created, added 2x 3.5TB U.2 caches and mounted (via terminal) one of the 4 DAS drives. I finally mounted the array and am no copying the data over locally between the drive and the mounted array share (SMB). I...

To answer my own question. Seems to work fine. Unraid is seeing the port as 10GbE and is using it fine.

Mini HTPC with Thunderbolt for QNAP DAS connection (Getting reboots on multi-GB file transfers with current setup).

Thanks for the reply. It is always good to have others to bounce thoughts around with with these sorts of issues. A few extra notes and observations. The connection to the DAS is direct with no hub in between. The cable is a short Anker USB-C cable and looks to be undamaged. There where no...

Chelsio T420-CR in a physical X8 with electrical x4 (pcie 2) for single port use ?.

Hi, I have a x10 supermicro board with a free PCIe v2 x8 physical x4 electrical slot. I also have a Chelsio T420-CR 10g adaptor. I only need a single 10G port. Will the adaptor run a single 10G port with x4 electrical or does it need all 8 lanes to run at all ?. thanks

Mini HTPC with Thunderbolt for QNAP DAS connection (Getting reboots on multi-GB file transfers with current setup).

The plot thickens.... When hooked up to my main PC, copying data from one disk to another (around 117GB) killed explorer.exe after maybe 20 minutes. The machine still ran but I had to use task manager to start a new explorer process. Drives didn't go above 47 DegC so, I guess, not a drive...

Mini HTPC with Thunderbolt for QNAP DAS connection (Getting reboots on multi-GB file transfers with current setup).

The problem is still persisting although it takes longer to materialise now. Ambient is currently 32 DegC. Drives are running at around 43 DegC with zero use in the QNAP DAS box. I have now tried: Reversing the rear fan so it pulls air from the front and pushes it out of the back. Removing...
