I bought two 1.5tb Optane 905P's recently and my plan is to use them for my docker/appdata/vm storage on Unraid.
I am torn between single device pools running XFS on them and taking the risk of the loss of redundancy for the sake of performance or running a ZFS mirror with them. My other...
That is what I was leaning towards honestly, if I increase the frequency of my backups I can mitigate the risks for the most part.
I still don't think Unraid will allow me to make a pool with anything other than ZFS or BTRFS, unless I use the unassigned devices plugin or format the disks...
Hi all -
I am in the process of building a new server for my Unraid setup which will include two 1.6TB Intel Optane 905P's.
Worth noting I will be essentially moving my existing array setup onto new hardware so the base array will stay as-is.
For the array as it sits I am using the standard...
I was under the impression that active + shroud might actually do more harm than good, is that not accurate?
Do you use the 2U SM heatsink or another brand?
Hello -
I bought a used Supermicro CSE-847E1C-R1K28LPB for use with an H12SSL-i motherboard and an EPYC 7402P or 7443P (haven't decided yet) and I need to know which heatsink and fan shroud are the correct parts to buy.
Passive heatsink + shroud seems like the correct choice but I am not sure...
I'm fine with U.2 or whatever form factor. In fact some of the chassis I am looking at have the BPN-SAS3-826EL1-N4 backplane which would give me room for 4x NVMe drives on the drive sleds. I just don't know much about what to look for in this space, especially if there are concerns about NVMe...
I appreciate the reply, this is exactly the sort of information I am looking for. The price difference between the 9400-16i's and 9400-8i's I see out there is only about $30-40 so I would probably just get the 16i anyway.
Perfect, I will add this to my list.
I don't know all of the details...
Thanks for the response. The specific listing I am looking at is (ebay link).
The listing states then the rear backplane (12 drives) is a BPN-SAS3-826EL1 and the front one (24 drives) is a BPN-SAS3-846EL1
I apologize for my ignorance, I am new to the supermicro world. I have spent most of my...
Hello -
New to the forums here.
My current homelab consists of various old computers but the main one I am concerned with today is my primary Unraid server.
Budget is around $1700-2000 all in.
