10gbase-t running at 2.5g less heat?

agreed, the china vendors are a great deal, but shipping also takes a great deal of time, or a great deal of money. Currently waiting for full height brackets for a pair of 100gig nics, I got cheap off ebay, but didn't notice they only came with low profile brackets. US sellers wanted $30 for...

    32gb optane modules

i bought some to use as slog devices, should be nice for proxmox hosts that are using block devices for vm's. But of course that weekend I got really lucky, I think i was lucky and found some 64GB optane drives, and a pair of 118GB optane drives, now need to test to see which size goes best...

10gbase-t running at 2.5g less heat?

if at all possible avoid 10gbaseT, I have a Mac Studio with a 10gig copper port, burned out my first tranciever on it, barely any use at the time, just stopped working. Currently I have a 120mm fan that came with a USB adapter pointing at the tranciever with little heatsinks on it top and...

    Running cables outside without conduit?

the cost of running copper can cost you 100 to 1000 times more than running fiber. You have to burry copper, thus means trenching, lots of manual labor or renting machines to dig the trench not sure what the required depth is to be safe then you have to run conduit to protect it from rodents...

Code Compilation, Web Server, Game Hosting... Epyc, Threadripper, or Consumer CPU?

These are the reasons I went with EPYC and AMD as well, 8 dimm slots, that can take as large of dimms as any home labber can afford. None of this 32GB ram total on board. Along with expansion slots, I researched Intel latest CPU and systems, and could't believe the lack of pci-e lanes, some...

Rome Epyc 16, 24 and 32 cores sub 200w TDP - 2133 vs 3200 effect on workloads that require multiprocessing over compute

Will a 7003 memory controller access faster than the memory speed it was designed for, EPYC cpus are enterprise server cpu, they are designed to be stable, 24/7 in my experience, they run exactly as spec'd a 5% improvement isn't worth instability, these aren't consumer gaming systems where a 10...
