Last year I bought 32GB DDR4-3200 RDIMM for like $40 a piece, ECC UDIMM were around twice that. I bought the a pair of 32GB ECC UDIMMs for $145 last August.
While not exactly a bargain this seller accepted an offer $155 per module for 2 modules:

Given current RAM prices this was less than half the price I could find anywhere else and last year DDR4-3200 ECC UDIMM was fairly expensive compared to RDIMMs.
Prices are absurd right now. In late 2017 I bought a pair of SN200 7.68TB drives for around $350 each. In 2023 I bought several 1.92TB drives for like $90 each.
The best "deal" I've seen is a pair the OEM equivalent of a 960GB Samsung 840 for like $70, but those have poor performance and there...
Hello,
I've been looking for a new 4U case, the last case I bought was a Norco but apparently Norco does not exist anymore. From this thread I started looking into Zhenloong stuff, this case got my attention...
For those interested in power consumption figures. I replaced a X10SRH-F with E5-2697Av4 and 4x32GB DDR4-2400 with EPYC 7302p+, H11SSL-i and 4x32GB DDR4-3200.
Idle power (all VMs on but idle) is around 170W for the E3 and 173W for Epyc. Power under typical workoads is around 185W for E5 and...
Well average CPU usage of current server is around 10%, so low load power consumption would be interesting.
Also I'm interested in single thread performance against Broadwell Xeons.
Thanks, I'll contact him.
Regarding performance and power consumption, do you have any insights compared to an E5v4 system?
This E5-2697Av4 was an upgrade from an E5-2680v2 and power consumption was cut by around 30W and performance is better.
Hello,
I had an Intel S3700 800GB drive operating for over a year without issues, but I needed to replace it with a bigger capacity drive so I would repurpose the S3700.
I put the drive in an external USB to SATA enclosure to install copy an OS image, but the computer did not recognize the...
Hello everyone!
I remember reading here long ago about an eBay seller giving a discount to STH members. Anyone knows if it's still valid?
I currently run a X10SLH-F with an E5-2697A v4 and 128GB DDR4-2400. It has a pair of PCI-E drives and 6 SATA SSDs. It runs around 8 VMs and power...
I want to upgrade my Xeon E5 v4 to a Ryzen setup, still waiting for DDR4 ECC UDIMM modules to get cheaper.
DDR4 RDIMM modules are dirt cheap.
The 32GB Crucial modules with discount are ~$74 right now, which like half than a year ago, but 32GB RDIMMs are <$30.
I'll wait a bit more...
The board no longer POSTed and I could npt log into the IPMI, no matter what I did. I disabled the IPMI and it booted correctly. I enabled The IPMI again and it booted every time now and now I could log into the IPMI. I reinstalled the IPMI firmware and reset to defaults. Then tried to rewrite...
About a week ago my server with X9SRL-F stopped responding so I had to do a power reset. It didn't post, IPMI also didn't work. I powered it off, disconnected the power for a few minutes then powered it on and gave me that error "recovery image not found". Power cycled it again but now no...
I have one 16GB I removed from a new laptop some time ago. It's NVMe, not SATA, won't work as SATA.
What I've noticed is that after sitting a while it reports errors, requiring a full erase. This has happened twice. I just use it for tinkering with some SSF devices.
And power consumption of the WX7100 is about twice that of the WX5100, the WX7100 is longer and requires a PCI-E connector.
There are applications where low power consumption and a compact size are a better fit.
