    If it is LSI based, I believe that the drive is 'normal' format. I just recently shut down a box with an LSI 2208 raid-1, and was able to boot a pc with one of the drives with no effort. Try just plugging the drive into a sata port...

    Before you start really using, double check how the columns and stripes are configured, and make sure it is what you want. It could be 2x columns, or more. That impacts ability to expand later.

    One other area where unifi is great is support for family-I have unifi at my parents' house, and I have VPN between the sites and simple management of things at their house/some ability to diagnose. That is really nice to have.
