Do you remember if you had to use a Silicom provided package or did they simply link you to the Intel page for firmware? There seems to be conflicting info online where some say they simply used Intel firmware and other's say they had to use firmware provided by Silicom.
Thanks anyways :)
Those really are dirt cheap... <$15 on the bay and server grade. I didnt realize they had such a unit. Havent bought the rack mounted cases yet so it makes sense I try to find a not too long case that fits this and the PDB. Thanks!!
Thanks for the info gents, with all that said the hdplex is imo overpriced for what it is when factoring in 6x nodes. And the sf450 is unattainable in the US market currently
I cant imagine much has changed since but has anyone found some quality units in this range? I'm planning to build six quiet short depth 2U nodes and the main obstacle is finding an efficient ATX/SFX PSU.
The Corsair SF450 and Seasonic PX-450 seem to no longer be available. Super Flower has a...
Dell informed me that the 3450 will NOT get that fan/temp control feature.
If I run a stresstest the cpu instantly hits 90C and throttles for a few minutes and then after a few minutes delay the fans start to ramp up.
Description says RDIMM but picture is clearly a UDIMM. Good price for current market conditions in my opinion, earlier this year these were going for 70-80ish.
I need a pair of well priced 32GB ECC SODIMMs... wish that Virtium deal came back. Oh how I hate market bubbles.
Added AMT guide/notes for 3240 and 3450 here https://forums.servethehome.com/index.php?threads/how-to-enable-amt-vpro-on-10th-11th-gen-intel.53214/
It should be similar for a 3460

I wrote this using notes that I took in 2024 while working on a cluster of Dell Precision 3240 Compact (CSME14) and Dell Precision 3450 SFF (CSME15) workstations. The Win-Raid forums has extensive documentation covering this subject but it is scattered and not beginner friendly so hopefully this...
That latest update looks like a huge improvement for cooling, doesnt look like it made its way to the 3450 series but I can only hope its planned.
I'll try to get a guide posted soon for AMT.
What NAS software and storage backend is your backup machine running? If you are able to spin down the drives and have an efficient PSU your power consumption on the backup should be low.
Correction to the original post I believe the front intake fan is actually 80x80x20mm although 25mm just barely fits.
I have a cluster of similar SFF 3450s that Ive been running for a few years with ECC. I enabled vPro even though it was disabled by the factory following the procedure on the...
Capacitor health has always made me wonder. Some enterprise drives report a cap health metric but most dont. Has anyone experienced SSDs going bad from caps?
Truenas boot drives don't need anything special, especially since you cant run apps or vms off the boot pool. Literally anything will work - 16gb or more. Ive used high endurance sd cards for it no problem. I always recommend mirroring with at least a usb connected sata drive if you only have 1...
