    USB DAS Enclosure Question

I use a TerraMaster D6-320 with five WD HC570 (RAIDZ2) as a backup pool in my TrueNAS CE server. So far, I have not had issues with replications or scrubs over the the past year. Typical backup procedure is: Turn on DAS -> Import Pool -> Replicate -> Export Pool -> Turn off DAS. No idea how...

    Quiet/nearly silent QSFP+/QSFP28 switches?

I bought the QNAP QSW-M7308R-4X, so far it works with a generic 100G DAC, Intel 100G-DR1 modules, 25G DAC, and 10GBaseT modules. One month after I bought it, Mikrotik released the CRS812 DDQ. I replaced the stock 40mm fans with Noctua, and also added additional 40mm fans over the...

Supermicro 24x NVME Server Build (proxmox + truenas)

Just wondering if you have tested SMB between your server and a Windows client? What transfer speeds are you getting? (with or without RDMA)

    Intel - Amphenol - u.2 to m.2 adapter

Didn't work with Samsung PM9A3 either. Had to get a M.2->U.2 cable specifically rated for PCIE 4.0.

64GB DIMMS on AM5 Platform & Memory Type Questions

I'm using 2x48GB DIMMs from that company, no issues so far. You can get V-Color 64GB DIMMs, either via their online store or Newegg store front.

PCIe 3.0 x8 4 Port SFP+ Card with Multigig support?

X710-T4L if NBaseT is acceptable. If it's four SFP+ ports you are after, you will want something that doesn't reject modules coded as RJ45.

Mellanox MCX4121A-XCAT or Chelsio T6225-CR. If even cheaper is needed, MCX4111A-ACAT or T520-CR.

    U.2 PCIe 5 + SlimSAS = PCIe 5 Speed?

Seems it's common for SAS 4.0 cables to have 100 ohm impedance, while for PCIE 4.0 cables 85 ohm might be a recommendation but not a requirement. Personally, I would get an 85 ohm cable with a spec that explicitly supports PCIE 4.0. There are also two types of SlimSAS connectors - LP vs...

Brocade ICX Series (cheap & powerful 10gbE/40gbE switching)

Someone reported high retransmission rates when that Wiitek module transmits from 10G to NBaseT. I've seen latency spikes and no Pause frames with the same module in a similar scenario.

    GBASE-T transceivers performance with NBASE-T - Marvell 88x3300 v/s Aquantia AQS-107

I have used the exact same Wiitek module in my Mikrotik CCR2116's SFP+ WAN port connected to the 2.5G port of the ONT. Internet plan is 2.5G down + 1.25G up. Upload portion of speedtests occasionally causes loss of internet access despite SFP+ and ONT ports showing valid connection. I don't see...

CRS504-4XQ-IN with SX6012 best uplink option?

CRS504-4XQ-IN is compatible with Q+DA0001 which is a QSFP+ DAC, so no reason for the switch to be incompatible with 40G unless it's something specific to the IBM/HP DAC.

FreeNas/TrueNas RDMA Support (FR for voting)

Beta for Goldeye release of TrueNAS has been released; has RoCE support for enterprise customers. NVMe/RDMA enables the same NVMe commands to be transmitted through the RDMA over Converged Ethernet (RoCE) protocol, resulting in performance even greater than NVMe/TCP. Due to the direct memory...

    fs.com 100m SFP-10G-T100 / ubiquiti UACC-CM-RJ45-MG

Mikrotik detects the module as 10G. Download portion of the speedtest hits 2.3Gbps, so that implies the link to the ONT has been negotiated to 2.5G. Forcing the SFP+ interface to 2500BaseT or 2500BaseX makes the module undetectable.

    fs.com 100m SFP-10G-T100 / ubiquiti UACC-CM-RJ45-MG

Following up on my previous post, I have not faced any issues with the Ubiquiti UACC-CM-RJ45-MG in the WAN SFP+ port. My conclusion is that the Wiitek SFP-10G-T-100 is probably fine for a 10G connection, but I can't recommend it for NBaseT due to lack of support for Pause frames. Looks like...

    fs.com 100m SFP-10G-T100 / ubiquiti UACC-CM-RJ45-MG

I have been testing the Wiitek SFP-10G-T-100 that I bought from Amazon one week ago. More specifically, I have been using it in a Mikrotik CCR2116 for WAN connection to the 2.5G port of an ONT with 2.5G down + 1.25G up internet connection. Flow control is enabled for TX and RX. Desktop has 10G...
