    Black Friday, Cyber Monday deals?

I have a couple 48v APCs. I bought a 48v (nominal) LiFePO4 pack with battery management built in. The problem is that it's a 15S pack and not a 16S pack, so the voltage is not quite high enough to meet what the UPS expects (51v vs 55v) and even after adjusting it in the UPS the battery pack...

    $127 Cisco ENCS5412/K9 Xeon-D 1557 (12 core), 32G ram

Yes, this is possible. Pass through both the marvel switch and both X710 and It should work. I would have sworn I documented this detail but I couldn't find it in this thread. The key for making NFVIS work under ESXi for me was adding the advanced setting board-id.reflectHost = "TRUE" in the...

    Seagate Expansion 28TB External drive - 289.99

anyone know what drive is inside the 28TB model? I just ordered the 24TB version but now I'm reading it's a barracuda and not an exos anymore?

    Dell N2224X-ON Power-Switch 24x 2.5GbE 4x SFP28 25GbE 2x QSFP+ ($257.99)

FYI I had this list of requirements and went with a cisco WS-C3650-8X24UQ-S. 4 10G SFP+ ports, 8 multi-gig 1/2.5/5/10, POE+ it draws about 80W idle, but the fans ramp down significantly after it boots it's very reasonable noise-wise compared to my other 1U gear

    $127 Cisco ENCS5412/K9 Xeon-D 1557 (12 core), 32G ram

I have been trying to play with getting a NIM-LTEA-EA to work, but it does not appear on lspci or lsusb at all. Using the /opt/nic-pkg/nim-info command on NFVIS the box definitely SEEs the NIM, with the MAC address S/N etc. Poking around in CIMC logs at some point I could see a log entry where...

    $127 Cisco ENCS5412/K9 Xeon-D 1557 (12 core), 32G ram

FWIW this does not work on my updated CIMC. Cisco's update procedure to login with admin/password then doing emmc format p3 does still work

I managed to get a Realtek 8156 adapter working on the ENCS5412 USB port by using a powered USB hub, under ESXi using the USB NIC fling. VM throughput is right around 2Gbps. It has been stable so far, esxtop shows "system" CPU usage around 60% I want to test an 8157 (5Gbps) also but the one I...

    ESXi 8.0 U3 NVME Tiering

Following up on this work (not mine) to enable NVME tiering using a shared device, I wanted to use a single device for booting ESXi, tiering device, small datastore, maybe OSDATA. VMWare prevents this from working OOTB with a test that will only activate NVME tiering if both the GUID is correct...

    $127 Cisco ENCS5412/K9 Xeon-D 1557 (12 core), 32G ram

I believe the C8200-UCPE has the Atom C3758 CPU vs the D1557 in the ENCS5412, and Xeon D2xxx in the C8300 I would be curious how the atom performs compared to the ENCS. Sure wish there were > 1G options for the ENCS. I got a great deal on a C3560-8x24UQ for mGig (eBay) and so far USB hasn't...

    1U Supermicro Server 6x 10GBE RJ45 X10SLH-LN6TF LGA 1150 H3 X10SLH-N6-ST031

I don't want to derail this thread, but this Edge 3800 box seems interesting - is there any information out there on storage options, OOB management, power consumption, noise, etc for this platform?

    $127 Cisco ENCS5412/K9 Xeon-D 1557 (12 core), 32G ram

On my ESXi NFVIS VM I have 4 E1000e interfaces plus the passed through X710 VFs. I bootstrap the switch with a different VM before NFVIS starts because I have other VMs using the internal switch and I didn't want to depend on NFVIS to do it. The interface mapping happens in...

    ESXi boot from AHCI Passthru

I'm glad this information could help someone! FWIW I am using this "in production" for an ESXi8/TrueNAS AIO setup and it has been working perfectly since last year.

    $127 Cisco ENCS5412/K9 Xeon-D 1557 (12 core), 32G ram

just FYI I ended up getting an NIM-LTEA-EA module to test, but it does not appear to get powered up (under ESXi) or appear on any bus. I suspect there is some OOB mechanism to power it on. I assume it would work with NFVIS so I plan to do some investigation but I was curious if anybody has...

    $127 Cisco ENCS5412/K9 Xeon-D 1557 (12 core), 32G ram

For me, OOB management with remote console (CIMC), total core count, and VM-VM networking performance. I have about 20 VMs on mine with maybe 12 running at any one time. I migrated a bunch of separate physical systems into VMs on mine and improved total performance and lowered power draw...

The onboard ports are connected to the PCH SATA controller. For SAS, you have to upgrade with their SAS RAID HBA that I have never seen in the wild.

11ab:be00 is the PCI vendor/device ID for the Marvell Ethernet switch. 0000:0e:00 is the PCI address, but I have seen this change after messing around in the BIOS. If it gets far enough for the "Service CPU not ready" I typically have only seen that when the switch has already been...

    $127 Cisco ENCS5412/K9 Xeon-D 1557 (12 core), 32G ram

From what I could tell with some brief RE of an old NFVIS it looks like the NIM gets connected to one of the 10Gb ports on the internal Marvell switch. I have been wanting to test this also, but I have not found a 10Gb NIM for anything close to a reasonable price to test. It seems possible...

    $127 Cisco ENCS5412/K9 Xeon-D 1557 (12 core), 32G ram

Thanks for confirming that MAS works with the Linux igb driver, I started digging into it but the ESXi driver does not seem to have any support for this and it was easier to use a copper GBIC than continue messing with it. I used the cheapest SFP I could get quickly (specifically this one) and...

EXPIRED Brocade ICX7250-48P ($105/ea OBO + Reasonable Shipping)

curious about these switches, I haven’t used a brocade switch since 2Gb fiber channel was a big deal, what makes this better than a Cisco say C3850-48U ?

I really hate how Cisco has a million different rack ear configurations for their 1U devices. I must have 5 different sets, all different, and none match the ENCS ears. There is a P/N though 700-45575-01 and some sites seem to list both this P/N and ACS-4430-RM-19. They do look identical.
