I'm getting about 2 GByte/sec read speeds from the NVMEs in the riser. Haven't benchmarked writes but I imagine they're similar. The temperatures are all around 40 celsius at idle, climbing to around 70 during a zfs scrub. No complaints so far :)

Yep., it's a SanDisk SD6SA1M. I printed a little bracket to hold it in place - it fits right below the dual-M.2 bracket on the same mounting holes.

If four SSDs and a 10G NIC wasn't enough, I've also added a custom-designed GPS module to my M920q, allowing it to act as a stratum-1 NTP server. The GPS's serial output is attached to COM1 (/dev/ttyS0) and its pulse-per-second output is wired to the serial port's DCD pin, so it can be picked up...

The M720q doesn't support bifurcation, but the M920q does. There's some detailed discussion of what Intel says over here on Github. tl;dr: the PCH determines whether or not the CPU can bifurcate its PCIe lanes (thanks a lot, Intel...)

Production batch of the dual-M.2 risers has arrived! The details: this will only work in an M920q or an M920x, and provides two extra M.2 connectors (each with 4x PCIe lanes) plus an open-backed x4 slot for a NIC and a 12-volt fan header. With an M920x (or an M920q modded to be an M920x)...

A little cleanup: - 4GB DDR4 SODIMM, Lenovo 01AG829 - USB 3 A to SATA cable, looks like a Startech USB3S2SAT3CB but might be a different manufacturer - USB A splitter cable - not a hub, one of the downstream ports has data and the other is power-only - Lenovo VGA riser and bracket for...

I have one prototype of my m920q/m920x dual-NVMe riser available which I'm offering for free (within the US) if anyone wants to beta test. It lacks the fan header and open-back PCIe slot that the production ones will have (probably a month out), and it's not pretty, but it works :) Send a PM if...

I got the pinout from the schematic and reverse-engineered the dimensions by measuring an OEM riser with calipers.

It does. However, the m720q doesn't support bifurcation of the CPU lanes (see this comment on GitHub) so it won't be possible to use my board directly. I've also designed an m720q-compatible version but haven't manufactured one yet. Definitely, I'll add that on the next rev.

I'm working on a custom riser board to fit two more SSDs as well as a PCIe card into one of these, for a maximum of 4 M.2s. Overview on Github: GitHub - j4cbo/tiny5-m2-riser If all goes well I'll build a batch for sale and/or open up the design, but for now I'm waiting on a second prototype...
