Realtek 10 GbE USB Adapters might be on the way?

This is why I'm so thrilled about these. Realistically, in my home office/homelab, I don't need rock solid 10 GbE. Better-than-2.5GbE is way more than enough. But the lower power usage and a NIC that doesn't get so hot that it burns me or throttles itself is a huge improvement. Also, @ms264556...

Review Request: HP Flex IO 10Gbit module

Thanks! I just grabbed one, too. Those are expensive. :( (Around $50 USD after shipping, for mine.)

    Mellanox ConnectX-4 CX4121C firmware

Hey, there. I'm back. :) So, I've picked up a second one of these, and it once more arrived with the same Dell firmware on it--presumably because I got it from the same seller. I'm getting ready to put it in a Proxmox 9 system, except this time, I'm using a Dell Precision 3660 tower. So, it's...

Brocade ICX Series (cheap & powerful 10gbE/40gbE switching)

Does anyone make generic rack ears for the ICX-7150 that would work in a 10 inch mini rack? I might have to 3D print something, but I was hoping there was at least a tempalte out there for that if not a set of generic metal ears I can get.

Realtek 10 GbE USB Adapters might be on the way?

You want to edit video in 4K or higher directly off your NAS. Your laptop has the horsepower to edit the video, because it's 2025, but also because it's 2025, there's no onboard ethernet, and certainly no onboard 10 GbE. WiFi is not suitable for doing this sort of work. Why do you have a...

Bought a Liquidated Dell Precision 3660: Some Questions on PSU, PCIe, SSD adapters, and RAM

I'm not sure I understand the question. When I looked it up on Dell's support website (the warranty just expired and apparently I can renew it--not sure whether that's worth it), it shipped with an NVIDIA A2000; that's what in there now. I hadn't considered the upgrade angle. I assumed that a...

Bought a Liquidated Dell Precision 3660: Some Questions on PSU, PCIe, SSD adapters, and RAM

Hello, I just snaggged one of these off eBay for ~$460, with an i7-12700, 1000w PSU, 16 GB of RAM, and NVIDIA A2000 6 GB GPU. It looks like the model with the air cooler. That GPU goes for about $300 on eBay, so I'm feeling pretty good about this. I believe these are W680 chipset-based...

Realtek 10 GbE USB Adapters might be on the way?

Good to know. The old Thunderbolt 3 10 Gbps adapters were enough to burn skin if you weren't careful, and a lot of the newer USB 3/4 adapters weren't much better.

Realtek 10 GbE USB Adapters might be on the way?

Much better than I expected, too. For most of us that would be buying something like this, a solid 7.8-8 Gbps would be more than enough, I think.

MPU4032 IP KVM Questions: Connection for RS-232 Serial Devices? Fan Replacement? HDMI?

I'll definitely look into that. Thanks. :) I can just unplug the scaler and go without a real display if necessary. The portable 1080p monitor that the scaler uses as output lives on my desk. That would have been convenient. The odd thing about all this is that with the scaler connected, it...

MPU4032 IP KVM Questions: Connection for RS-232 Serial Devices? Fan Replacement? HDMI?

Thanks! Is that screenshot from your KVM? Mine looks nothing like that. Or is it from the server's IPMI? I'm feeling a bit dumb now--and seriously in need of some battery-operated lights in my rack-space where the KVM installed. I didn't actually have a missing pin on that cable; I'm not sure...

MPU4032 IP KVM Questions: Connection for RS-232 Serial Devices? Fan Replacement? HDMI?

@gregsachs @Rand__ : Thanks for your replies. I ran a VGA cable from the KVM itself to a VGA input on a video scaler/input switcher I use (4 HDMI, 2 VGA, DVI, Composite) that's hooked up to a portable 1080p HDMI monitor. I have one monitor and several devices (mostly HDMI) that need to output...

MPU4032 IP KVM Questions: Connection for RS-232 Serial Devices? Fan Replacement? HDMI?

I'm back. :) It works, though I'm really struggling with video quality/scaling issues on the devices I have connected. At the moment, I don't really consider it usable for the purpose I bought it for. I can't even read a full line of console text without something getting cut off on both...

MPU4032 IP KVM Questions: Connection for RS-232 Serial Devices? Fan Replacement? HDMI?

Fan mod complete. I used (single side) VHB A/V mounting tape to hold the fans in place. They're quite well stuck, and VHB seems to only get stronger over time even when heated. The 40 mm fans are only just short enough to fit in the 1U chassis; another milimeter and they wouldn't have worked...

Intel N305 and Intel 82599ES 10 Gbps SFP+ NICs: PCIe Bandwidth Question

Ah. That makes sense. That's such an unrealistic use case that I hadn't even considered it. I wish I was interesting enough to be doing 10 Gbps full duplex workloads at home.

Intel N305 and Intel 82599ES 10 Gbps SFP+ NICs: PCIe Bandwidth Question

Thanks for the reassurance. My core switch isn't even an L3 switch. I've structured my network to avoid inter-VLAN switching. So, WAN comes in through OPNSense and goes to the core switch, and all switching is handled there. My OPNSense is relatively idle most of the time.

Intel N305 and Intel 82599ES 10 Gbps SFP+ NICs: PCIe Bandwidth Question

Thanks! That's good to hear. Though, now I'm a bit confused about why I was running into so much static online about the quality of this board for 10 Gbps. Maybe those versions had more SFP+ ports and were bottlenecking from that.

Intel N305 and Intel 82599ES 10 Gbps SFP+ NICs: PCIe Bandwidth Question

I bought one of those Topton N305 OPNSense boxes with 3x Intel 2.5 Gbps NICs (I226-V) and 2x SFP+ NICs. The SFP+ NICs are 82599ES, PCIe 2.0 (5 GT/s, downgraded to x4). So, that's 4GB/s shared between them, I think (500 Mbps * 4). If I just use the SFP+ ports for OPNSense, with one being LAN...

N305 with DDR5-4800 16 GiB Stick: Memtest86+ 7 Reports MEM CLK: 1804 MHz. Something Wrong?

Hello, I just grabbed a Topton N305 box to run OPNSense on. I put in a Crucial CL20 DDR5-4800 16GiB stick and ran Memtest86+ 7.2 (the version from Proxmox 9's ISO), and got some odd results that I'm feeling wary about. Memtest86+ v7.2 MEM CLK: 1804 MHz MEM Temp Range: 38C - 55 C depending on...
