So a small update regarding 9755ES amd LM2 motherboard. Have looked for companies that build workstations and saw they also use Seasonic 2200W PX-2200. So now the over current protection LED on the motherboard doesn't start blinking, but everything is the same - fans spin up for a few seconds...

I wrote to them and got an answer after a couple of hours:
"The PSU on that page is fine, BUT "Selecting 500W CPUs will limit available power, restricting the video card to the RTX A1000 or 2000 Ada."
We don't have a higher PSU for that system. 1600W is the max a 15A power outlet will support."...
Hm... so there's a company making workstations with 9755 and they also include a 1600W PSU. I assume they tested with full load. So I guess the PSU single rail power isn't the only thing to look for in a PSU
Tnx for confirming, have thought I'm going crazy with thinking PSU would be an issue. What's your experience?
I guess you're talking about the new PCIe power connector - 12VHPWR. So the PSUs I tried, if they had 12VHPWR, it would be the same connector on both sides so you can't plug it in into...
No. Still searching for a server PSU to test instead of using Cannon 2.5kW. But it's strange because other users report it's working fine with ATX PSUs (a company making workstations is using Super Flower ATX 1600W), another reported that it worked for him with Asrock PG1600 PSU, so searching...
Just to clarify, by not booting you mean the fans not even spinning up or spinning up for a sec and shutting down? Also, have you perhaps tried with any other PSU?
The latest BIOS update for LM2 is R20_F41. Do you also see a performance hit with it? What kind of perf hit do you see - 10% or more? Can you share the workload?
Oh, that's interesting info, thanks. So it works with an ATX PSU that offers 133A@12V. Hm... ok, then not sure if it's a bit special because it handles transient currents better and it's over current protection circuit isn't triggered OR there's sth wrong with my motherboard.
Would be...
Didn't manage to power up 2 CPUs, as said, tried 2 PSUs already, last idea is to use a server PSU (the high transient load triggering over current protection circuits problem should be better handled in server PSUs according to ChatGPT)
Since yours are also 500W CPUs, let me know about ANY PSU...
Thanks for a new thread. I started a thread about LM2 and Epyc 9755 ES. The current status is as follows:
- @RolloZ170 confirmed they could boot with 2 CPUs only with the latest BIOS and that for 2 socket motherboards, it's required to have 2 CPUs to boot
- the seller claims they can boot with...
I wonder how you connected the PSUs. Is it like you use 1 PSU for powering the motherboard + CPUs and then other, chained together for GPUs? So if you can power 2 CPUs with your PSU, I assume in my case it's not about power stepping (i.e. an ATX PSU is fine). Which leaves the other option...
Thanks for the link! Couldn't find it with a quick search. Also surprisingly affordable at $1235. The Gigabyte LM2 was $1300 from China. Wonder if Zen5 ES CPUs would work at all. Can I ask what PSU you're using?
