Realtek 10 GbE USB Adapters might be on the way?

My m.2 adapter arrived, so my HP Mini is now rocking 10Gbe. The details are on my previous comment, but to summarize... The RTL8127 card doesn't require extra power, so all that's needed is the adapter, ethernet extension & a 3d printed bracket. My total cost including taxes and shipping was...

    EXPIRED Ruckus R710 Ebay $29.99

You'll lose beamflex, which is the main point of a ruckus AP. And at least on the existing openwrt ports, throughput is significantly lower. The Unleashed version supported by the R710 is still receiving security updates, so there's no real reason to avoid it.

    EXPIRED Ruckus R710 Ebay $29.99

You only need to enable mesh if you need wireless backhaul. Once enabled, you can't disable it again. It's optional because it creates an extra backhaul SSID, which you might want to avoid if everything is wired. It has no effect on seamless handoff.

    EXPIRED Ruckus R710 Ebay $29.99

You're misreading this. It's telling you that it won't let you disable the master's WiFi until you have 3 or more APs. https://docs.commscope.com/bundle/unleashed-200.13-onlinehelp/page/GUID-02DEB613-7F14-42E8-AF6D-F2429CBE26D3.html

Realtek 10 GbE USB Adapters might be on the way?

Mine arrived a few days ago. It's really tiny. I've ordered an m.2 adapter, extension cable and printed a mount. Hopefully attacking this lot with some hot glue will get it shoe-horned it into my HP mini. Total cost was ~$45. EDIT: Got the RJ45 extension today. It's the lowest profile I could...

Realtek 10 GbE USB Adapters might be on the way?

I've been using the SFP+ version I bought from Alibaba for a few days. Signing up for an Alibaba account took about 2 minutes and got me free shipping, so my total cost including taxes was ~$40. Can recommend! The kernel driver doesn't support SFP+ cards yet, so I'm running the Realtek driver...

Minisforum MS-01 PCIe Card and RAM Compatibility Thread

Only anecdotal, but I've never owned a dumb switch which didn't pass through VLAN tags and DHCP.

Minisforum MS-01 PCIe Card and RAM Compatibility Thread

I got my last 4+2 switch for $16 delivered & it uses 1W idle. If you're really worried about isolation then why not run a DAC to one SFP+ port and plug your module into the other?

Realtek 10 GbE USB Adapters might be on the way?

Which kernel are you running the prop driver on? I upgraded a proxmox box to 6.17 to run one of these & I'd rather not downgrade.

Realtek 10 GbE USB Adapters might be on the way?

The card in the photos is identical to the card @Shonk pointed us at earlier, which was $10 cheaper for NZ delivery from alibaba.

Realtek 10 GbE USB Adapters might be on the way?

I can't speak for anyone else, but the AQC113 consumes twice the power and pumps out twice as much heat as the RTL8127. Mainly though, I want SFP+, and Realtek is the first cheap and low power solution for this. Edit: also, proxmox has a 6.17 kernel available now, and it'll be the default in...

Realtek 10 GbE USB Adapters might be on the way?

Nice. I guess I'm buying. Did yours come with both a high and low profile bracket? Edit: ordered the SFP+ variant. US$41.48 incl taxes to NZ

Do you know if she's happy with a bunch of 1 piece trial orders? Or should I wait for these to show up on AliExpress?

Ruckus Wireless as an Unifi alternative?

If you need a dedicated master then the advantage of the R730 is that it's very cheap. If you don't need any dedicated master functionality then installing an R730 dedicated master is just throwing money away. If 200.14 is worrying you then it's worth setting up a VLAN or two on your router...

Ruckus Wireless as an Unifi alternative?

Ok I understand the question now. So, if you install a ZD1200 INSTEAD of a VPN then you can configure any ethernet port on any AP to also tunnel traffic back to the ZD1200. Ruckus removed this functionality from the Unleashed web configurator. I'll have a check later in the week to see if it...

Ruckus Wireless as an Unifi alternative?

With Unleashed/ZoneDirector, if you tunnel everything then you'll just have to live with this. It'd probably be simpler to just enable DHCP and not tunnel anything. Apologies, I was daydreaming when I wrote that. The trial is 90 days (so 180 days if you ask for a renewal). You register here.

Ruckus Wireless as an Unifi alternative?

Yes, DPSK lets you assign dynamic VLANs. And yes, the tunnel passes DHCP traffic. So if DHCP is correctly functioning for a VLAN at your headquarters then it should function correctly for the same VLAN at the remote end of the tunnel. DHCP relay is an L3 thing. The tunnel is L2, so you just...

Ruckus Wireless as an Unifi alternative?

This combination is not going to work. Tunneled AP traffic terminates at the Active controller, so if the headquarters controller goes down then traffic will exit at the branch controller. So right away the branch subnet needs a device to provide DHCP. And VLANs aren't magic: you need something...

Ruckus Wireless as an Unifi alternative?

As I said earlier, you will need to use Unleashed Dedicated Master to share one Unleashed network between two locations. So, assuming you're running an Unleashed Dedicated Master (or ZoneDirector; they work the same):- The default for Ruckus APs is to dump all traffic out to the local network...
