Brocade ICX Series (cheap & powerful 10gbE/40gbE switching)

I just used thickly threaded screws that 'bite' into the heat sink fins a bit. Works well.

Sorry if this is slightly off topic - have any of you found an easy way to integrate an ICX switch into a HomeAssistant instance? I'm running a 7250, and I'd like to pull the device info to HA (temperature, fans, etc). Having control would be great, but even just passive data would be nice...

my fans were Nidec, but they were also black, yellow, green. I posted the pinouts. (note: the fans in that post aren't what I settled on). https://forums.servethehome.com/index.php?threads/brocade-icx-series-cheap-powerful-10gbe-40gbe-switching.21107/page-156#post-254785

I'm very pleased w/ my 7250 mod, but I agree with you - there comes a point when someone should likely consider a different switch entirely. https://forums.servethehome.com/index.php?threads/brocade-icx-series-cheap-powerful-10gbe-40gbe-switching.21107/page-159#post-256375

Pull whatever version of V9 you want from here (IMO they'll have to pry 8 from my cold dead hands): https://support.ruckuswireless.com/products/105-ruckus-icx-7250-campus-switches Follow these instructions to update: https://fohdeesha.com/docs/brocade-overview.html

You can splice into one of the existing fans. I'd recommend using new connectors instead of trying to splice the wires themselves.

Add a fan to the ASIC heat sink. I used a Sunon MF60101V3-1000U-A99 in my 7250-48P. I also suspect the fans you swapped in aren't really up to the task (10.3 feels kinda low to me, I think something in the 17-19 range would be better), but you'd have to see if the ASIC solution at least got you...

I run mine in the back - just makes a heck of a lot more sense from a cable management perspective. Didn't reverse the fans - didn't seem to matter.

Yes, attach it to the CPU heat sink. Sorry, I wish i'd taken pics of this at the time. There's no perfect attachment points, I just used some heavily threaded screws and they bit into the heat sink enough that it holds it in solidly. I never found myself having to cool the SFP area, seemed...

Ruckus Wireless as an Unifi alternative?

Anyone here have much experience with the Guest network? I set one up for the when the family visited over Thanksgiving and every user (regardless of device type/OS) had to login twice. First time would always fail, second time would work. Is this a known thing, or anyone have any thoughts on...

I replaced mine with Mechatronix, they've been perfect for me. Best bet is sticking a fan on the ASIC as well, makes all the difference.

Make sure the fan is attached to the ASIC heat sink, not the case. I used screws and just screwed right into the fins of the heat sink. Been great for almost 2 years now.
