Thanks for the info everyone. Any recommendations on drives currently on eBay or sellers? (If this is allowed). This will be for a small home lab running with 2 users. Nothing heavy, just a family media server, some VMs to play around with (Windows, Linux, OSX), pinhole, etc. I just want a...
I am looking for a reliable boot drive for a new Proxmox server build. I found a seller on eBay with Intel D3-S4510 480GB drives for $49.99 new. Seems like a great deal. Any thoughts on using this drive for Proxmox boot (and possibly some VMs)?
Did you end up running badblocks on your 14TB drive? I have a couple of 14TB drives and I am curious how long it will take to run.
@BLinux
Do you recommend running badblocks on brand new drives? I have a couple of 14TB WD Red Pro drives that I just bought. Rather than use the script...
This project was put on the side and I am back on it again. I am looking into used, enterprise SSDs like several have mentioned in this thread. I would like the Proxmox boot drive to be strickly the OS only and in RAIDZ1. Does anyone have any recommendations for a low cost - low capacity...
I understand that but my needs are probably 1/10000 that of a data center, lol. I've been running services on a single Windows machine for 10 years now with an old 128GB SSD.
Wear out an SSD? From what I've read, most people use SSD for speed/performance of the VMs and OS.. So you put VMs on a standard mechanical HDD?
"screams consumer SSD" yes. This is for home use.
What are the downsides to using a single drive (500GB NVME M2) for both the Proxmox boot drive and VMs? I plan on having (3) 14TB HDDs for other data.
This is for home use.
Thanks for the reply. I am curious, which do you recommend for someone who doesnt mind tinkering but also doesnt want to spend hours and hours maintaining. Having a good user community for support and questions is very important. Out of all the options I listed, which do you feel has the...
I am looking to update my home “server” setup.
Current Setup:
QNAP NAS (2 bay, 8TB each)
serving files to all devices on my home network
AMD Phenom tower
Running Windows 10 with Plex and other server apps
New Setup:
I built an AMD Ryzen 7 tower back in 2018. (specs below) I barely use it...
Helllo @devin122 - How do you like this system? I am looking for a thin client to run standard desktop apps - browsing, office apps, some photo editing, etc. Which model CPU did your unit come with? The listing says 'HDD Caddie included with the PC' - is the caddie for a standard 2.5" drive?
