mostly form factor - these fit 4 to a 1U shelf decently if you're tossing in a homelab rack and have a place to hide the power bricks. but yeah hooking up to a DAS isn't something i was considering with these - more for compute, localized storage, etc. if that's a need- there's a couple options...
Finally got around to swapping out the Super Micro AOC-STGN-i2S for the Trendnet TEG-10GECSFP in a P350. Works out of the box with Proxmox 8.04 and more importantly at least at low traffic it doesn't cause the case to heat up beyond the ambient. If you can get by with a single 10gb SFP+ port...
Was able to source a brand new Elite Mini 800 G9 12700T from hp.com with educational discounts for less than the used price they were going on Ebay at the time. This was a base model with 256gb nvme/16gb ddr5. Already dumped a 2TB NVME drive in it, a SATA enclosure (no disk in it yet, deciding...
I made a similar discovery that if something could boot first, it'd still choose the 2230 drive to run the OS (in this case, I had installed proxmox twice - once to the 2230, and one to an mSATA drive - the mSATA drive booted to the 2230). Also discovered the PXE timeout option (as long as there...
1. Not sure. I don't suspect much between like-for-like generations - 90q g1 = intel 10th gen, 90q g2 = intel 11th gen. for other options, that's also a thinkstation p340 and p350. like for like meaning, between a 10500t and an 11500t - they have the same TDP.
2. The first post specifies which...
My P350 hasn't been stable as of late (particularly running workloads but nothing near the capacity of cpu/ram). I run proxmox on it and have had total hardware lockups. When I open the case, the AOC-STGN-i2S heatsink inside is very hot.
Not sure if a firmware update would help, or if I need to...
I’m having trouble with this in my Elitedesk 800 G6 SFF. The receptacle on the motherboard has one socket (which previously came with a DisplayPort adapter) while the 10gb card has two connectors. It seems to not be able to mate correctly on my board. Does everyone else have the two ports...
Never heard of an M3600C but stumbled across this:
https://post.m.smzdm.com/p/an3p228v
and a video of how that m900 NAS comes together:
https://m.bilibili.com/video/BV1ao4y1p7Tn
Made a weird discovery with my p350-
it has:
2x 2TB NVME drives
1x 512g mSATA connected via an msata->sata adapter
1x256g m.2 2230 drive connected to the m.2 e-key port reserved for wifi
I wasn't able to get the 2230 drive boot natively from bios, but i was able to install proxmox to it.
I...
Wow had no idea these existed. I mentioned a Synology version but it was noted that it was too big. Are you using one of these cards? The QM2-2P410G2T looks too long but the QM2-2P10G1TB looks like it might barely fit.
Note that QM2-2P10G1TB appears to be PCI-E gen2 and according to reviews...
Tried printing this mSATA to SATA adapter enclosure for PC Engines APU/APU2 by crox on my Prusa and the measurements were subtly off (even with attempting some mild % increases in x-axis). Recreated the thing in tinkercad and am printing another one around. Not exactly sure how I could more...
That's genuinely surprising to me. I feel like even casually supporting things like this leads to more problems, especially if this spec was never intended to be supported.
I say this as someone who also has to push back on unusual asks in my day job...
That said, here we go. Not expecting a...
So, I have a kioxia bg4 2230 drive in the a+e key slot. The normal bios doesn't detect the drive, but diagnostics does. I used a virtual cd to boot the proxmox installer, and was able to install proxmox to the drive. It detects as /dev/nvme0n1
Upon restart, it doesn't detect any boot devices so...
True that. The only mention I've heard is the Kioxia BG4 relative to the BG5. There's a likely correlation to higher performance with higher energy consumption (at least within a PCI-E generation, though a quick skim of PCI-E gen 4 seems to indicate higher power consumption across the board)...
Given the interface drastically caps out the throughput, I'd say anything that uses the least amount of power (and thereby generates the least amount of heat) seems like the highest order of preference - unless you expect to repurpose thing in something else.
