I purchased the X12STH-F with a 2386G for the igpu function. SMC confirmed that c256 was necessary. The product listing must explicitly list the compatibility.

Are you on the latest bios? Support may have a beta bios available. I would try a single stick, try each slot. Also check under the processor for bent pins.

I prefer supermicro for the same reasons. Is the quality and compatibility necessary? Maybe not, but if they are accessible I would definitely pay a good bit more for it. SMC also offers super quiet options on psu/fans.
