I'm going to go the same route as you @playlogic. You mentioned you removed the backplate and the cover doesn't currently close. Have you started to work on a custom cover? Also for the backplate maybe I could do a CNC replacement if you think it would be possible. I don't have my parts yet so...
@playlogic How about this: The card I purchased isn't Power over Bus, but it is a slim SFF single slot and comes with a 16-pin PCIe 5.0 to 8-pin cable.
What if I used a 16-pin PCIe 5.0 to 8-pin adapter, then an 8-pin to 6-pin adapter, and connected it to an external power adapter? I know this...
Could you provide some more photos to capture some of the modifications you made? Ie. Remove back plate, remove a secure clip, shave rubber pads might be touch to show).

You know what? You're definitely not missing anything; I am. As you pointed out it is NOT bus-powered :eek: I guess I should return it or get an external case, as you suggested, and attach it via the Thunderbolt port.
