Oke - some new developments about my cwwk motherboard:
It turns out the memory i purchased (just ordinary - nothing special low voltage capable kingston hyperx 2666 2x 16G) is not compatible. Proxmox and unRaid just crash. Not even with one bank socketed it crashes. Since the board always...
Do you have in fact a greenish motherboard?
Not sure who makes the green boards but the black boards are almost certain manufactured bij cwwk and the N5101 is this motherboard:
- N5105/N6005 NAS Demon Board / Six SATA3.0/ Dual M.2/ITX/ Four I226-V Nics.
If so, then this will be the correct bios...
I don't know the BKHD board but the layout and spec are as far as I can tell quite the same. If I only knew what cause the crash. I think im going to try proxmox again but got no spare nvme's / hdd's left and this board is already getting a money-sink for me :(
Can confirm that the firmware got flashed successfully. I indeed used rufus to make it bootable. unraid still needed those extra kernel params and still does not like when u have dockers and 3 vm's running.. System hangs within minutes. Sadly
Going to give that a shot.
I just downloaded it - still not a bootable iso, so after work I log to my windows partition to use rufus and hopefully get a bootable usbstick.
Hey,
It's been a while and want to revive my attempts to use it with unraid. I got the ISO but forgive me for asking : How do i flash the firmware. Last mainstream motherboards I got all had bios' that could be updated directory from the bios. Last time I had to deal with that was prev...
unraid just started without any tinkering with boot params ?
Wonder if you van find a board version/revision and firmware/bios version/date?
nevermind - all in the screenshots :-) we got the same board
No news I'm afraid - used a couple of kernel boot param - some will boot the system and work for a while but under load it crashes. Going to use the board for an other project.. Posted a new thread on the unraid forums, but had no reply yet.
Seems to be possible with a few "hacks" - just found this (it's a debian/ubuntu hack/fix)
Shamelessly copied from the internet:
Open/create /etc/modprobe.d/i915.conf and add the line:
options i915 enable_guc=2
Then run this command:
sudo update-initramfs -u
I think this trick might work on more...
2x 16G HyperX @2666 works too (https://aliexpress.com/item/1005001926770320.html) You are probably not going to notice if it runs 2666 or ~3000 but I bet you notice the difference between 16G and 32G.
I did some more testing /w unraid.. Managed to run 2 vm's and a couple of dockers but when things get busy the board crashes. Had the dockers doing some work and I was copying some 60Gig qcow2 disk images to one of the nvme's. After a couple of minutes I a nasty kernel panic and the system...
oof - if the 5825u or 1235u could be equipped with a little bit more then 16G or ram (say in the order or 64 - 128G?) then this would be a beast. 4ssd, 16 to 20 thread. Ideal homelab docker/vms rig.. I cba just wonder how they fit all that on that motherboard as it is already crowed. 2 nics...
One of the comments complained about not having the i/o shield - and that are not telling you it comes with an i/o shield so if you don't receive on with it you can't complain but... I "spammed" topton in my order to provide please provide the shield. and got the shield
I can confirm (various disclaimers apply tho) that I finally got unRaid booted. I could not stand that proxmox or centos would install with some kernal-hint regarding to the graphicsmode. That did point me into the right direction.
After booting using various combinations of boot-parameters...
I only know TrueNas by name - one key reason I want to use unRaid is because it is not a raid.. When one drive breaks down you can easily replace that with any other disk - does not even matter if the size is different as long as the parity drive(s) are the same size but apart from that. If your...
Can
Can't tell - if you boot the board with a bootable linux stick you should be able to see at least something with lspci or ip addr.
Meanwhile - unraid does not like this board AT ALL!
Installing proxmox was already a pain - got unraid working inside prox but keeps crashing every other...
I been tinkering bit more with the motherboard today. As I want to run unraid as a vm (just because I like the way it stores and shares file in a very lightweight manner I had to figure out how to attached entire physical disks to the "vm". At first I followed this document how to pass-through...
