Unless you plan to load everything literally to 100% max power at once, like 600w on the 3090, you’ll have more than enough power. I run 3x4090 and an overclocked w5-3435x on 1600w. I do power limit the gpus to 400w though when they are all loaded. 450W on all three trip the psu. The cpu...

    W790 Motherboard discussion thread

I have the x13SWA with an 3435x, works really well with some extra VRM cooling. Otherwise it’ll throttle when overclocking. Only 6 phases but that doesn’t seem to matter.

Findings with Asrock W790-WS, Xeon SPR-SP D0, and BCLK OC (and lack thereof)

There’s a good chance this doesn’t apply, but with my Supermicro x13swa, both setting the Pl1/PL2 and the current limit overrides require 2 resets. The Supermicro board makes this pretty clear because it has settings that explain that a reset is needed to set the MSR to allow the override, then...

    LGA 3647 torque specs

I read that as they apply equal pressure when locked, not when loading. Watch this video - (totally random selection) It seems like the cpu is always level in the socket. Sure the hinge applies some force, but that force is limited by the active arm even when unlocked so the CPU is not at an...

    LGA 3647 torque specs

https://www.intel.com/content/dam/www/public/us/en/documents/design-guides/core-i7-lga-2011-guide.pdf Page 28 There is a hinge and active lever. The active lever puts even force on the socket, IIRC the hinge lever puts no force on the socket. It’s been awhile since I’ve touched on of those...

    LGA 3647 torque specs

I've found in practice doing that tends to lever up one side of the heatsink, requiring a lot of force to push down the other side. Doesn't seem great for the socket. I do know the heatsink says otherwise. 3-4 do come last I should say, but 1-2 always seemed to make sense to tighten together. I...

    LGA 3647 torque specs

Just watched it, uh, it shows someone using a power drill quite haphazardly screwing one screw all the way down at a time until the drill clicks a few times. I’s imagine that’s like the worst possible way to install any sockets heatsink. I always use a star pattern at least, though I have never...

AMD Instinct MI350 288GB GPU Offering 35x AI Inference Performance Next Year

Does anyone have more details on the FP4/FP6 support? Is it the same as Blackwell (micro scaling) or something else?

    X11SRA-RF weirdly beeps at booting

I think that’s just the normal x11 beep sequence. At least, that’s what my x11 k1spe board sounds like too (the only board I have with builtin speaker still lol).

Some sort of backplane-to-19-inch adapted thing on Aliexpress

Interesting - the description mentions something about a baidu specific sas card (/the card needing to be in raid mode?) - so maybe these are baidu custom bits? Kinda weird, these look pretty used.

    [SCAM] Lot of 80pcs Lenovo P4610 6.4TB U.2 SSDPE2KE064T8L

Yup, but they just pass that onto you. They really don't do much about stopping it. It would be very easy to perceptually hash the images from every listing and if an account suddenly submits 1000s of new items with all closely matching images to old/existing listings, shadowban. I've seen my...

Gigabyte is refusing to provide GPL source code for BMC firmware

This is not true. SCF vs Vizio disproves this.

Gigabyte is refusing to provide GPL source code for BMC firmware

I agree, this is a GPL Violation. You may be able to get legal involved by guessing the email (legal@ gigabyte?), or asking the support rep to contact legal. Gigabyte must provide the source as they are the ones distributing it. I was successful using this technique for Phase One, a camera...

Not that I'm asking for help (ASRock Rack & "vertical" CMOS battery)...

Ooo fancy! Yeah I can only imagine, DisplayPort is very complex compared to plain old VGA!

Not that I'm asking for help (ASRock Rack & "vertical" CMOS battery)...

I find a VGA->HDMI adapter to be a very good investment for this purpose :) I have yet to see a IPMI/BMC with digital out, I'm sure they exist somewhere, but not common at all(?).

3GHz Single Core Turbo on KNL 7250?

I have a KNL 7250 in a supermicro K1SPE motherboard I've been playing with. I noticed that sometimes, the reported clock speed was above what the max single core/tile turbo was supposed to be, for example 2.1GHz instead of 1.6GHz. When compiling rust (lol), it spent awhile on a single compile...

    ES Xeon Discussion

Yeah I know/knew that, I did it by accident once. (my cpus have an adhesive graphene sheet on them and I didn’t label them…they are now though!). Just saying it was 00 on my supermicro board - is that what you mean by not a RoT firmware? What is RoT firmware? Root of Trust firnware? So they are...

Hmm interestingly, that is what my qyfq does on my x13swa, but worked fine on my w790 as expected.

Yeah same, there are some okay deals for 3465x’s for 1800-1900 I guess, given the msrp is ~3k, but otherwise yeah only a few 100 off it seems.
