So @louie1961 you caused me to completely re-think my plan. I decided to go with a more modern processor.. Found a good price on a i7-12700 12c/20t cpu so I grabbed it. 65w, igpu, quicksync, etc.. I can use a 2/3u case (prolly Rosewill) as I dont need the fullsize gpu anymore, and the 65w idle...

@louie1961 - Also thanks for the input.. My main reasoning for that old of a cpu was the core count for VMs in Proxmox. I dont really need to transcode in...

I have a DIY pfSense firewall I built 6ish years ago that has been humming along nicely so far. It consists of a Intel Atom C2758 board in a Supermicro SuperChassis 505-203B chasis. The chasis has Supermicros PWS-203-1H power supply.
Over the last 2 days we have had 3 power outages here...
@altmind Not really looking for a replacement board.. I want to upgrade the whole board to a new(er) server board for Proxmox. I can mod the inside and/or backplane of the chassis if needed.
I have a Synology RS815+ that I just decomissioned/replaced and I am wondering if its possible to build a custom virtualization server from it?
Thought is to replace the MB with a server MB and utilize the rest of the internal components already there.
