Picked up some freebies with quad core Westmere 1366 CPUs (2xDL380 G6 and 1xML350G6). All 3 were pretty loaded (144-192gb of DDR3) and at 24x1tb between the 3.
I don't want to invest much into these boxes but at a minimum I'd like to upgrade each of them to a pair of 6 core CPUs. What direction...
I was originally pretty excited about hearing the news on Skylake X CPUs.
But then I started looking at the specs and until you get to i9 7900x you're locked down to 16 or 28 PCIe 3.0 lanes.
This seems insane to me, unless I'm just missing something.

I ran into the same issue with crossflash to IT mode. I'll have to try the updated instructions OP linked. I gave up when I first got the card and it's been sitting in a drawer since. Perhaps there's hope.
I have an x9dai that does not want to boot from anything, period.
It recognizes RAM & CPUs, does not report any errors via beeps or in BIOS.
I've cleared CMOS via SM's instructions. Reset all BIOS settings to defaults, etc. No luck.
I've tried using the CTRL-HOME with SUPER.BIN latest BIOS on...
Looks like the E5-2680 v1 is the CPU to buy right now. Prices have dropped into the low $90s and E5-2670 v1 has been creeping up every week now.
Scored a pair for just a few bucks more than the SR0KH are going for.
