    NAS: sporadic momentary connection drops

Static LACP unless you have a reason to let it negotiate. I see this all the time in our “legacy” environment. For such short, directly connected links, chances of an issue that will drop the link based on LACP issues alone are going to be slim. Taking CRC errors? LACP negotiation doesn’t...

Tshooting a borked network setup in esxi8.

Strictly speaking, yes, though I'd expect TCP to control this to a degree, I guess iperf doesn't quite work that way; just happens to use that protocol. No QoS rules in play here as it's unnecessary as on this 10Gb path, it's only me and on the 25Gb path, I'll never saturate it with the current...

Man...I must be posting some tough questions. 0 for 2.

ESXi seemingly isn't seeing trunked frames from a switch

So the VM was associated with the port group for VLAN 1000? Does any other VM where you're explicitly tagging for VLAN1000 work (such as the FW)?

ESXi seemingly isn't seeing trunked frames from a switch

You haven't provided any network config for the host itself. What's your port group setup?

Tshooting a borked network setup in esxi8.

Not too long ago, I added a second HBA into my host to split my drives for my NAS. As I didn't pay too close attention to what I was actually doing, I think I moved my NIC to another slot. Oddly, SR-IOV became disabled in BIOS, discovered that as I was having a helluva time getting esxi to...

Networking Hardware for Parallel Computing on a Small Cluster

Speed/bandwidth ≠ latency in this context. You could have 400Gbps throughput at 3μs port to port latency and 1Gb at 5ns. Given your budget, chances are you won't get to the lower end of that budget. Without knowing the ins and out of this application, I'm just making educated guesses at what...

Networking Hardware for Parallel Computing on a Small Cluster

As you explicitly referencing latency, what is the latency target you are aiming for? Often times when people talk about latency they don’t actually understand what it is they need. If you want the absolute fastest, then you need a L1 switch which is on the order of about 5ns. The SX6005...

PSA: Vmware ESXi 7.0 does not like consumer NVMe drives

Well, nowhere in the thread did it specify the Phison controller so... Perhaps the thread title should be changed. Have you tried this? https://flings.vmware.com/community-nvme-driver-for-esxi

    H11SSL-i and a quad m.2 adapter

Have you tried a different slot? Have you tried to not bifurcate the slot and then see if it posts?

    H11SSL-i and a quad m.2 adapter

What are the exact models/P/Ns of your adapters? I would think that if there was some SMB issue, it would just ignore it. I have some Dell BOSS adapters here I could try to install to see if there's a similar issue. With the card installed, in the BIOS, do you see anything in the SMBIOS logs?

    H11SSL-i and a quad m.2 adapter

EDIT: Crap. I misread the board model. I have the H12. All things being equal, I can’t imaging there being that much of a difference between the two so I’ll keep the below. I've just installed exactly this, the Asus Hyper gen4 with 4x 1TB drives and no issues with the exact same mobo. I...

    TrueNAS core special/metadata vdev underutilized?

I've just rejiged my NAS by creating 11 vdevs of two disk HDD mirrors, a three-wide SSD mirror special vdev with 2x HDD spares and 1x SSD spare. I've set both datasets I have to 32KiB for the metadata block size. However, after reloading all the data to the corresponding datasets, I have the...

    FS QSFP28-SR4-100G possible batch issues

Bit of a long shot here, but curious to know whether anyone is using these optics. If so, can you indicate whether you have any with S/N starting with G22207? Doesn't particularly matter how they're encoded. Whether in straight 100Gb operation or breakout also doesn't matter. FEC enabled...
