Aside from ATTO, any PCIe SFP28 or QSFP+ (40 or 56) PCIe NICs for MacOS ...?

I think it’s just that the Mac Pro is the only Mac natively compatible with it as it’s the only one with internal PCIe slots—they have a Thunderbolt 25Gbe solution that I think is just that card in an enclosure. I’m on vacation right now but I’m hoping to have a CX4 and enclosure waiting when I...

Aside from ATTO, any PCIe SFP28 or QSFP+ (40 or 56) PCIe NICs for MacOS ...?

Apologies for bringing this back from the dead, but I've found something potentially exciting on this front. Sonnet has a new 25Gbe card with DriverKit support, the Twin25G. I was looking through the manual and saw that Windows reports the card as a standard Mellanox ConnectX4-LX, specifically...

Quantum FC LTO5 Drive - $26 Used Untested

I saw that after I purchased mine, unfortunately. It would be a bit cheaper, but assuming the one in the mail works I'm not sad to have missed out on it. Another quick question: are both the ports on the back of the drive usable simultaneously? I don't really want to buy a FC switch, but am...

Quantum FC LTO5 Drive - $26 Used Untested

Too tempting to resist--thank you for all this info! I'm trying to avoid building a dedicated offsite backup system and hopefully this is the ticket. Could I just use a standard SFP/SFP+ DAC here, or are their custom cables needed? I'll be routing the cable from the inside of my chassis to the...

Not the EU, but I haven't heard back about U.S. shipping.

UK 15.36TB Samsung PM1733 NVMe SSDs for £389.99, plus other bits from the same seller

I think the seller is done for the day--I sent my message around 4:30 PM local time and haven't received a response.

UK 15.36TB Samsung PM1733 NVMe SSDs for £389.99, plus other bits from the same seller

I reached out about U.S. shipping and can report back. Too good a deal not to ask--even with the power consumption I think I'd win out on consolidation vs. four or more smaller drives.

Best way to increase zfs read+write speeds

Reconfiguring the main pool as mirrors would cut your usable storage space by a third but would meaningfully increase your speed. A special metadata device (or a Fusion Pool in TrueNAS language) might increase performance in some domains (metadata and small file reads). That might be more...

    SanDisk CloudSpeed Eco 1.92TB 2.5" SATA $120

Power consumption is also going to be killer on NVMe compared to SATA drives.

EXPIRED INTEL GOLD 6346 ES2 16C 2.9GHz ICE LAKE QWAS

Where are you finding cascade lake hardware that cheap? I've been thinking about picking up some hardware to play with Optane but I've never seen it at those prices.

Qotom Denverton fanless system with 4 SFP+

Here's the CPU next to some more common chips (N5105 and i3-N305). Multi-core is respectable but the single-core is dicier.

Any reason for SAS over SATA in bulk storage (xxTB) HDDs

Native support for multipathing (multiple hosts, controllers, and/or cables connected to the same disks for failover) is a potential benefit, but if you have the appropriate interposers for SATA disks it isn't much of one. It also only really comes into play when you're dealing with disk shelves.

    $6.00 USD 16GB Intel Optane NVME SSD - Useful or E-Waste ?

Yeah, I love these as boot drives. My TrueNAS Scale system is running with a 32GB one like a treat. Endurance is much better than NAND (though perhaps not if it was overprovisioned) and the price is hard to beat. In my installation I'm running with two mirrored storage drives in the...

Any good NAS cases with Hotswap?

Slightly unconventional suggestion, but I picked up this 8-bay mATX case from Taobao through a shopping agent. I ended up paying $250 or so, shipping to the US included. It has some flaws (steel isn't the thickest thing in the world, I'm not sure if it has true hot swap, and if you want more...

Clearing out some old parts and figured I'd post them on here. Open to local pickup, bundling preferred, shipping included in price unless otherwise noted. Can provide pictures on request. Nvidia A2000 6GB: Purchased this for a low-profile gaming build and it's working great in that...

Backup on mDisc or Tape Drive

It is worth considering offline cold storage of hard drives as a possible solution here, either a single drive or two redundant ones. You're looking at a substantial initial investment with the tape drive and it's fairly specialized equipment; if you're not storing the drive itself offsite...
