Thank you. I picked up a SM863 from the OP's post. I offered $219 and was accepted. Should be a perfect boot drive for my non-M.2, non-PCie bootable Dell T3610 workstation.
for multiple windows/browsers open on a single display 40-43 inch monitor is perfect. It’s literally four 20-21” 1080p monitors “glued” together. I use four 1080p application’s, one in each quadrant for most of my work. Much more efficient than a multiple monitor setup.
If you are only going to...
I went from high 300’s wattage to high 100’s/low 200’s. I was able to drop one processor, 12 sticks of ram, and one hba card with the new motherboard.
unfortunately this new board died on me, back to the old power hungry setup until I can determine what to do next. Looking and comparing...
Editing this post a year later to mention that my board is fine, I had two memory modules out of four fail on me and my testing/troubleshooting logic was poor to say the least (tired and frustrated, I guess). I replaced this board with a supermicro for my server and will use this board as a...
You can use just about any previous edition windows key to activate win 10. They are really trying to get win 10 on everything. You can even run non activated and the only penalty is that you can not customize look and feel wallpapers. Sooner rather than later windows 10 will just be free
I just upgraded my Unraid server from dual E5-2670 V1's with this board and a E5-2680V4 (14C/28T). running perfectly.
using four 32GB DDR4 2400 Registered ECC sticks (Certified) I got for $95 each on eBay.
Upgraded the BIOS to the latest from Feb 2020. Happy with the build. Lost 2 cores/4T but...
I have added the AVX base, max and all core frequencies to the table for the entries I could find. Thanks for giving me something else to learn/dig into. Now I am going to read about what types of real word tasks/applications I would expect AVX to be used on.
I made a Google Sheets spreadsheet with all of the E5 V3/V4 processors that includes specs, and relative value metrics like $ per core and $ per clock speed based on recent eBay selling prices. Hope it can help others with choosing the best value processor for your needs...
FYI... I bought a $100 small business PC (HP 290) with a 8th generation dual core Celeron in it with quicksync just for PLEX transcoding. It works amazingly well and just sips the power. The i3-8100/i3-9100 above will work great for plex transcoding. I have another exact box just for Blue Iris...
I am in the middle of the same research as you. I made a google sheets with all E5-X6XX V3 & V4 procs, comparing cores, speeds (max vs. all core) and most important - used sold prices on Ebay to determine relative value. Explore and let me know if it helps you and others...
If you look at the memory certification in the documentation and copy and paste the exact memory module part numbers in eBay, you will see roughly $50/16gb registered ecc stick and $100/32gb stick. This is for Xeon compatible memory.
I have not priced it out for core i7 non ecc unbuffered...
I just picked up this board and a E5-2680V4 to replace/upgrade my UNRAID box that was running dual 2670 V1's from the great 2670 liquidation years ago. Thinking about picking up another for my main workstation.
Can I boot from NVME on a PCIE card in Windows/Linux?
Answering my own question...
We are not talking about pip (picture in picture) pip uses different video sources into the monitor to display different pictures. This is limited by the number of inputs (typically three or four) and must physically control the internal monitor hardware/software.
we are discussing efficiently...
I am not aware of software for dynamic snapping and scaling of windows.
here is a great video to show you how windows can easily snap application windows to half screen or quadrants with keyboard commands:
Sorry, I took so long to respond. I use a TCL 43" 4K television. I bought it at sams club for $215, but the same TV is sold at Walmart, Best Buy and various other stores with slightly different model numbers. Most TV are crap when used as monitors because of chroma and how it displays text. This...
I actually use a 43” 4k tv @60hz 4:4:4 and it looks great but have to keep the screen about 3 feet from my eyes to see everything. I have a workflow and split the screen into four 1080p quadrants, with an app in each. Something like 37” - 40 inch would probably be perfect.
I have a 6450-48p with a bad power supply (verified by swapping with known good power supply) Are there replacements available at a reasonable cost? My google-fu not producing results today. Thank you.
