    Dell R630 rNDC in a Dell R620

I've run these in 12G and 13G with no trouble - what you have to do is switch bootmode to UEFI-only, disable network booting / the UEFI network stack, and disable option ROM load for those slots. otherwise you can just wait out the slow boot :P

    Mellanox SN2100 firmware

here you go: 760.81 MB file on MEGA - 3.9.3220 is the newest available, came out on Feb 9th. for the record, if you have a valid switch serial number you can create a MyMellanox account, add the SN under "My Products", and they'll let you download updates even if you don't have a support...

Beware of EMC switches sold as Mellanox SX6XXX on eBay

I do recall I had to do something to make it not throw a hissyfit - I used a different set of switches to what you use in the guide: Guide calls /sbin/manufacture.sh -a -m ppc -B -u <url> which means these options: -a (auto): do not prompt for configuration and layout choices; take defaults...

Beware of EMC switches sold as Mellanox SX6XXX on eBay

I have two EMC SX6012 which I ran through the entire old conversion process on (several times trying to get it right - my file package and slightly revised guide is linked somewhere in this thread, I forget where) but never got around to actually using. I ran both of them through essentially...

Beware of EMC switches sold as Mellanox SX6XXX on eBay

Mine originally came up in VPI mode with the profile set to 3; I found I could switch profiles just fine with the system profile [ib|eth|vpi] config command (I'm running ethernet only) Can you run show system capabilities and paste the output / see what it says?

Beware of EMC switches sold as Mellanox SX6XXX on eBay

Wait it out. It took a solid 45 minutes on my system, it's something to do with how the partitions are formatted/accessed in recovery vs the normal runtime environment, I think; the first access to any given file takes forever because of some hidden JFFS2 stuff going on in the background...

Beware of EMC switches sold as Mellanox SX6XXX on eBay

Not quite! Deleting the symlink might not have been the best move, we recommend renaming it so you can move it back later if needed, but it’s not a big deal. You need to find the file the symlink used to point to - /var/opt/tms/output/passwd, if I recall correctly - and copy it to where the...

Beware of EMC switches sold as Mellanox SX6XXX on eBay

It appears the site is offline now :( I've mirrored it on IPFS with a couple tweaks to the folder structure & some additions to the instructions file to make it a little more clear; resource ID is QmR8woLoGLPa8kCWDnEeTMNyRK6p6ovY322sGXgd6pWBAe, and you can get to it via the CloudFlare IPFS...

Beware of EMC switches sold as Mellanox SX6XXX on eBay

I can't remember the specific command, but fae cable-stamping-unlock ? at the configuration prompt should give you a list of two options. One is 40g_lr4, the name of the other one implied that it would unlock 56G over unsupported cables.

Beware of EMC switches sold as Mellanox SX6XXX on eBay

Yeaaaah, it's pretty much toast. Something's screwy with the i2c buses, which are on the SwitchX chip and/or the Lattice CPLD, and there's nothing obvious I can find other than a couple of blown zero-ohm resistors that shouldn't be relevant (and replacing didn't fix) Ports 1-4 don't work, ports...

Beware of EMC switches sold as Mellanox SX6XXX on eBay

I think I saw it listed under one of the other status commands... *sigh* It's still very unhappy about the fans all being dead, but it's not generating 10MB of syslog messages every few minutes, so that's a plus. It also still won't recognize any SFP+ modules installed in a QSA... but it does...

Beware of EMC switches sold as Mellanox SX6XXX on eBay

Thanks a bunch; (un?)fortunately I'm not missing anything, but it's good to be sure. That said, oh my god, I'm an idiot. Remember a few posts back where I showed how to flash from within the CLI fae menu? This line is wrong: sx6012 [standalone: master] (fae) # flint -allow_psid_change...

Beware of EMC switches sold as Mellanox SX6XXX on eBay

My bad, I forgot to even mention the actual issue ‍*facepalm* it refuses to identify any optics/DACs; they all show as "unsupported module" or "invalid/missing EEPROM data in module". I did once manage to get it to identify a genuine Mellanox 40G IB DAC, but it won't even identify that anymore...

Beware of EMC switches sold as Mellanox SX6XXX on eBay

Maybe this SX6012 is dead, after all. It's being really weird, no doubt because of the blown fan chip - the issues I'm seeing seem to be mostly centered around I2C bus stuff, it essentially won't identify any optics/DACs no matter what I do :( it also seems to require an fae mst restart after...

Beware of EMC switches sold as Mellanox SX6XXX on eBay

Okay, so it hit 2am where I live and I called it quits for the night. It takes forever to log into the local console, hangs on 'Modules are being configured'... Anyway, once it's logged in, you can indeed run flint from the system; there's no easy way to access the internal filesystem, as far...

Beware of EMC switches sold as Mellanox SX6XXX on eBay

I thought I saw flint in there, now to find out if the fae flint command will play ball with the -allow_psid_change -override_cache_replacement flags. My SX6012 is currently rolling through its firstboot process, so once it's done freaking out over ECC errors, I'll give it a try - saves a couple...

Beware of EMC switches sold as Mellanox SX6XXX on eBay

I'm kind of surprised that nobody's discovered this hidden menu yet, but here's a fix for that; configure terminal fae cable-stamping-unlock 40g_lr4 exit write memory Not 100% sure I remember that right, but fae cable-stamping-unlock ? will show you the available unlocks - there's one other...

How to reformat HDD & SSD to 512B Sector Size

Try sg_format with the -S (secure erase mode) flag. May work better. Can someone try to solve this riddle for me? I have four HUSMR1610ASS204s that presumably came out of a 3PAR. They report themselves as being an HP-specific part number, HSCP0920S5xnNMRI, unlike the HUSMR1010ASS204 model...
