I've been looking at converters and the only reasonable options I've found are from China. Problem is it takes a month to get it and I don't wanna wait.

I've noticed that these adapters all seem not to connect the pins beyond x8. My question is can I cut a slot in a x16 video card so it will physically fit in a x8 slot and still have it work?

Yes you can, but be careful with that board you got with clearance cause the cpu behind the pcie slots is #1 and the other one is #2

Edit: By "that board" I was refering to the board you posted in the other thread the X9DRD-7LN4F-JBOD

Yes, I've cut slots and it works fine. As mentioned, make sure you don't hit anything. Sometimes they put heatsinks in the path of the long card.

Thanks guys. I plan to use my current GTX 750. It does all I need it to do. Hate to butcher it but that's better than it collecting dust.

Just to clarify - the suggestion was to cut the back out of the x8 slot, not cut a notch in your video card.

On the X9DRD-7LN4F-JBOD a lot of things are behind the slots. 3 of the 6 slots have a heatsink or battery behind it and 2 of the 3 left belong to cpu2 so if you don't have two then you are down to only one slot that could take one.

I have used a bare hacksaw blade and that worked pretty good for cutting out the back of the slot or its lopping off the back half of the pcie card

I will have 2 CPUs and the video card is a stubby so I'm hoping it will work.

btw: I found this on another forum.

According to the writeup, the only way to tell if it will work is to try it. There are other factors that keep some cards from working.

I know there's a x8 video card made by PNY but it doesn't have display port out.

Hmmmm, wonder if there's a x8 version. I'd still have a problem securing the card tho.

Pretty sure that is designed to be high enough where you put the lp bracket on the card and it will mount correctly to the chassis.

Pretty sure we have covered this topic several times...

Not that I would suggest doing it to as nice a card as the 750....
I did it to a Gforce 6100 years ago...
