It really depends - there is fan control software available from Lenovo that you can manually configure the fans. As long as you aren't running them hot and the room is well controlled you could back the fans way down.
I have one of these in a cold basement (~20C ambient) with 12x4TB WD RE. With the fans all at minimum setting the drives barely hit 22C.
In terms of noise, at minimum it's not bad. About as good as you can get with half a dozen 40mm fans. About as loud as a relatively recent blower-style video card at full tilt.
