I got one for $89. I watched them go from $109 to $80 and back to $89 in less than 24 hours. I figured that I should get one while the gettin' was good. Now I just need to build the rest of the server around it ;-)

I got another pair at 89. Trying to decide if I should replace my 2620 v2s with these and use those for my storage server build. More mhz and more cores would be great on my ESXi box. Hmmm...

If I didn't already have 2 2665 2.3 GHz ES B0's I would jump on these. I may just sell my B0's and jump on these anyway.
The v3's on taobao are so tempting however that I will more likely start collecting for the eventual move to ddr4.

I'm trying to figure out the economics here. If these were $1500 new, 3 years ago and are now selling for about $100, that means the original owner thinks they've got about 2 months of usable life left in them.

This is a huge depreciation. How long could you expect them to last? There's no way I could afford this kind of computing power new, but I could definitely invest in $500 to get one of these, along with a used 2011 motherboard and ddr3. But if the cpu craps out after 2 months, then the whole thing goes down the drain.

I just don't understand if these chips really could last another year or two, why they wouldn't sell for $700? Are you basically rolling the dice with these (or should I say, rolling the die)?

these cpus will be running hard and strong even 5 years from now.
they are low in price due to a sudden insane market supply from a dumping of servers from facebook/google/where ever as they upgraded to newer generation gear.

If you look on taobao rather than ebay the v3 chips are cheaper than the v2 and falling rapidly. These chips although quite powerful from my perspective and a bargain because ddr4 hasn't come down are going to be worthless pretty soon. Hang on to them for a year and you just throw them in the dumpster.

If only ecc ddr4 was cheap I would be building a C612 machine on a X10DRG-Q (so sexy) today instead of a Z9PE-D16.

DDR4 is extremely down in price.

Dec`14/Jan`15 the 'best' rate I could get then was ~$180-95/16GB now I've gotten them down to as low as $85.

Has anyone on here ever bought anything from Taobao. I'm still trying to figure it out and see how to get something shipped to the US.

Not to divert from the E5-2670 deals, but if you go one generation further back, you can get an X5560 for $20. LGA 1366, up to 144GB of DDR3, 5436 Passmark score. This was a $1000 processor in 2009, and now it's selling for a week's worth of lattes.

Two of these and an X8 series SM motherboard. Incredible amounts of compute power for pennies on the dollar.

I'm going to need a rack in here.

I've purchased some keyboard stuff.
1 Find a reliable agent/reshipper. taobao merchandise doesn't ship out of china.
2. The price isn't the price.
3. Google translate is your friend.
Sounds like a pain in the arse at least, and a decent chance to get screwed at worst...

Is it really worth it?

I've known people to do it, it's risky because they often have the ES CPUs that don't work in much of anything... you really need to know what you're getting or you're out the $$ at-least on ebay w/CHINA orders you have some protection.

Hi! Lurker here. Trying to give back. :)

The price for these chips is back up to $108.99 as BO or BIN. I was waiting for an ebay bucks offer which landed today @ 3x (6%) (not the highest, but did not want to pass this deal on).

I did a BO for $85 x 10 w/esisoinc and they countered at $100. I countered @90 x 10 which was accepted.
