A handful of my chassis only support 2.5" HDs.

They're general use / web hosting servers. I like to make sure my HDs are either new, or barely used, so I prefer to not buy refurb or used for production usage.

Currently I have 20 NIB 300gb Velociraptors, and plan to use 12-15 and keep the rest for spares.

I'm looking for 750-1TB 2.5" that don't break the bank for "backup" drives in these nodes.

What model # / brand do you guys suggest? 2.5" is new to me for enterprise, I'm only used to using them in laptops.

They can be 5400rpm, or 7200rpm, but not 10krpm+ as they're for backup... so low power, and performance isn't a concern. Just cheap/affordable and reliable :)

I was looking at some WD Blue 750gb for $45 but I don't think BLUE is an appropriate drive for a server, even for backup --- someone tell me if I'm wrong here.

So, what 2.5" Spinners is everyone having luck with?

I have a raid 5 of 4 2.5" reds in our replication target host. Haven't had any issues with them. They are down to ~70 for the 1tb ones.

Any idea how many TB written and/or read to each drive so far?

Its behind a HP P410i, from what I can tell they average about 106865168837 sectors read and 34835198098 written with about 8974 hours on them. All 4 were put in the array at the same time.

Most of the servers at work have the 500GB Constellation.2 in them, and we've had zero issues. Both SATA and SAS versions. They're 7200rpm, 15mm drives. I have a pair here, and they're OK, one was DOA so was replaced by Seagate.
