I'm looking for a new switch that has 4-6 sfp+ ports and 24-48 gigabit ports. The rest doesn't really matter as long as it has the things I mentioned but it does have to be available in the EU.

I think you will need to go with two switches then. Two of the above uplinked together. I can't imagine you will find anything new comparable from a price or noise or power consumption perspective than two of those linked together. will leave you 6 free 10gig ports and 48 gigE ports

Have you checked around for used Brocade ICX 6610 units? They have 8 - 1Gb ports that can be upgraded to 10Gb with a license.

We usually get the PoE versions for around $1500 here in the states, lightly used.

Quick eBay.co.UK search showed the non PoE seem to be going for under a grand (in pounds of course).

I have indeed been looking for those switches but then the 24 port one and with 2x licence already installed.

A switch with 48x 1Gb and 8x 10G ports (+ 4x 40G QSFP in the back?)?
This could be perfect for a home lab.

How hard is it to find them with the 10G upgrade license(s)?

I suppose power consumption is gonna be fairly high, though.

I have had trouble finding them on eBay with the 10Gb license installed. Most sellers see that the ports are 10Gb CAPABLE but don't fully understand that the 10Gb option is on demand and is not a standard feature. I am pretty sure that if you contact a Brocade used seller, they could sell you the 10Gb port upgrade for around $1500. Kinda pricey I know, but it's a nice dense unit.

I have no idea if the 40Gb on the back can be used for anything other than stacking though, that is all we have used it for where I work. I have no 40Gb NICs to test with either or else I would, the Brocade hardware manuals just list it as a "40Gb Ethernet port" so, maybe it would work as a standard port? </shrug>

I have never put a Kill-A-Watt on any of our switches. We have about 40 Foundry / Brocade FGS648P units here with dual 500W PSUs. We get those all day long for between $100-$250 bucks, and they can be upgraded to 2 - 10Gb ports as well. Those are a screaming deal if you don't care about noise and power.

If you want some cheap 10Gb switches from eBay, check out the Brocade VDX 6720. Been seeing them for less than $2K for 24 ports of 10Gb (without optics of course): Brocade VDX 6720 BR VDX6720 24 F Tested Warranty | eBay

I have a guy here in the states that we get all of our used Brocade from. PM for his info. Don't want to just toss it out there and get accused of shilling.

Brocade ICX6610-24-I w/ 2x ICX6610-10G-LIC-POD (8x10GbE SFP+ uplink ports!) | eBay That is the one that I am looking at, it already has 2 licences installed. But if you want the 48 port one that Hadrien linked you could get another licence to upgrade from 4 to 8 10gig ports Brocade ICX6610-10G-LIC-POD for ICX6610-24P,ICX6610-24P-E, ICX6610-48P and 48P-E | eBay

Thanks for all the info, but I think the ICX 6610 is gonna be too power-hungry for my tastes: 165W (185W with 2 PSUs) power draw according to the specs.
I think I'm gonna wait for those new D-Link 10G switches to come out, instead.

Density-wise they sure would've been nice though.

My ICX 6610-24 (non PoE) consumes 90W with two PSUs installed and 80W with one PSU. However these meassurements were taken under light load. You might also want to consider the noise as such Enterprise-Class devices are rarely silent.
