I bought one drive as a test to see what I would get. At the time, it was $99.99.

It passed an extended SMART test and badblocks with no errors. Performance was good, varying from about 220MB/sec (sequential) at the outside of the disk to about 140MB/sec at the inside.

What I think makes this a "Great Deal":
  1. The extra 5 year warranty. No, I don't know if the seller will be around that long, but I think it gives some extra security if the drive dies 10 months down the road.
  2. 10TB SATA are hard to find at any price, much less close to $10/TB. I generally only use SAS in my big arrays, but my docks only take SATA, and I need some backup drives.
  3. This is an enterprise drive with helium, not a desktop drive.

46462 hours is 5.3 years, and a bit more than I'd like.

Thanks for being the guinea pig on this though.

MDD is the brand GOHARDDRIVE uses for their refurbished white label drives.
Note that this is not a white label drive. I'll post a picture when I'm back near the drive, but it has a normal HGST label.

It is a bit high, but look at all the "Pre-Fail" numbers. They are still the same as when it was first shipped.

This is pretty interesting. The drives they're selling have a good amount of use and are formatted 4k, which be an issue for some use cases. But on the other hand, they're essentially offering the same warranty as when the drive was brand new, which is unheard of in a used drive. If the company behind it is stout, then this is quite a good deal since you're basically guaranteed a working drive for 5yrs, albeit not the exact same one in the event the original drive fails.

Company is good. I've tested their RMA in the past and all was good. I have a bunch of WL drives that have been running for years without problems.

At first, I'm thinking "SATA HDD? ... Feh!!" (I've bought only SAS hdds for 5+ years), but your point #2
... my docks only take SATA, and I need some backup drives
jogged me to a (short/near-term) solution of my own:
4 SAS 10TB drives in the 4xLFF cage of a HP ML30 g10, connected to the internal port of a LSI 9207-4i4e. Those drives are configured as a SnapRAID 3xData+1xParity, which I want to expand to 4+1. I already have a trayless hot-swap in one of the 5.25 bays (and several unused SATA ports) .... "Eureka!":)

Note that the price did jump from 100 to 110 on Sunday, but came back to 100 Monday (and still, now).

I'll follow up in a few days (bought yesterday ...+ CA-->NH), and we can compare notes on health/usage stats.

Look out for the 4k sectors though as you may have to format your entire raid again with 4k sectors after formatting the other drives 4k also.

Disk has decent stats and tests well; very similar to OP's report (46k hours, 0 Realloc & CurPend). One diff is that mine, although originally shipped w/Firmware 21D (as per printed label) now has 38L
Firmware Version: LHGNT38L
Other small details that I take note of:
Max Temp 42
24 TB Writes (avg write ~32KB)
35 TB Reads (avg read ~10KB)

Nevertheless, Caveat Emptor ... this IS goharddrive!
What I got was exactly what was listed, with SMART data not wiped:
How can we KNOW? Maybe they haven't cleaned up their act, but, even more deviously, refined their technique. For example, instead of just zeroing out all counts like they used to (but were sloppy and got caught [Link] & [Link]), maybe, now, they only disappear the errors; so a FAILED used drive looks like a good used drive.

Do note that they are still masking the Date of Manufacture on the label (now it is done "right", unlike in those 2 links).

Just saying ...

Thanks for your concern, but
[you replied to:]

Don't know much about SnapRAID, huh?
(Which branch do you work at? ... as per: "I'm from the government, and I'm here to help."):)

Ah, now the 5yr warranty makes perfect sense. Get a 70k/80k drive for peanuts and roll back the odometer to 40k and double/triple your money easily so throw in a warranty since replacements are cheap. The problem with this is the shadiness of wiping smart info...

Ahh...the joy of SnapRAID! If it holds data...its good to go!

I don't see this firmware version anywhere on a Google search. I wonder where it came from.

Definitely save it first if you plan to change it. It could be something custom that is needed by your particular drive for some reason.
