Dude, since when are Supermicro E5 v3/4 (x10) motherboards so expensive?

I was just flipping through eBay to see if there were any matches to my 2 X10SRL-F motherboards available, they used to be around $150-$250 (I got my first one new for $280 in 2018). Now they are like $450-550 and they're actually selling for that much (!)

Sure enough, the new ones are just as expensive. What's the deal with that, does anybody know?

Are the new Ryzen and Epyc motherboards through the roof now, too? I was thinking about upgrading, if I can make 100-150% return on selling my old stuff I just might do that ...

The price jump must have been recent, as I had looked at the X10SRL-F about 2 months ago when I was having a hard time sourcing X9SRL-F boards that were functional. I have a crap ton of ECC registered DDR3, so I wanted to stay on that platform, but I considered changing. At the time, X10SRL-F plus memory would have been about $200 more than the used X9SRL-F (so about $450), but about the same as the old-stock new X9SRL-Fs.

They (x10srl-f) are eol and you can't get new ones from Supermicro. Also it was not a global sku if I remeber correctly and with 1 socket + 40 pcie lanes it was for a smaller market (compared to dual/quad socket and e3/celeron/pentium server of that time)

Edit 2: Theses mainboards are also ~8 years old now and were succeeded by 3 generations...

everybody wants them = price gets up.
the offering price is not the selling price.

There is a LOT of love for X10SRL-F because it has 7 x PCIe slots and v3/v4 Xeons are bargains :D

I actually have an X10SRH that is in storage if you wanted to make a deal on it?
I was using it for my NAS, but I switched to the X10SRL because I wanted even more PCIe slots for nvme, hba's, quadro, 10g nic, etc.

Sure, was looking at those the other day since they're basically the same thing as the SRL with a SAS3008 controller, have you flashed it to IT already?

Lol, what's a "deal", like $500? At today's prices...

My last SRL I picked up for $150 in a server with 5x2tb WD golds, 2x256GB 850 pros, an E5-2660v3, 32GB ram and a 2x hot swap atx power supply so I'm pretty damn spoiled.

Would have been perfect had the previous owner not spread dialectic grease all over the pci and dimm slots

You can dishwash or hand wash the board to get the grease off.

The surfactant would make sense for grease, but I would not use water solvent; it can get into nooks and crannies and cause corrosion. Perhaps 99% isopropyl alcohol, like for cleaning flux residue.

I usually do the cleaning with 70%, as IIRC surfactant needs *some* water to work. Then use a static free blower (duster can or electric, or if you have it artist/painting grade compressor as you don't want to spatter oil on it) with a final "rinse" of 99%. So long as you drive all the water off (with air or iso) you'll be fine. Suggest NOT having cmos battery on the board however.
