Hi. I know you can use E5-2xxx processors on single processor motherboards. What about E5-4XXX processors? I assume the answer is the same for E5-4XXXL, the lower power variant.

Unless your chassis is TDP constrained, you are not going to see any benefit of going with ‘L’ processors. AFAIK, The idle power consumption is the same across all the CPUs in the given generation.
If your board/bios supports, use V2
