Finally got the switch working. Had to do a full factory reset. Afterwards the switch is working normally.

When I got the switch it did not boot to ZTP. I didn't think too much about it at the time.

The switch was sold as new. So not sure why it did not come up to ZTP, and why I had to erase the config to get it to pass traffic. Makes we wonder if it was just a fluke, or ebay seller sold me a used switch as new...?

4.22.0F does not work on the 7050QX-32.

"Failed to start TCG Core Services Daemon."
And the ASIC never comes online.
from what I understand the 4.22.x codetrain is for the new 7800 line
Figured I'd try it out, confirmed it doesn't work on these old devices.
Not true. 4.22 should work for latest Arista switches
I advise to try 4.22 2GB image for older switches - e.g. 7150S and 7050QX-32

4.22.0 and later support for 7150 and 7050Q(X and X2) will only work with the EOS-2GB image, regardless of how much ram it has. These images are the same as the full size from a functionality standpoint. Don't use them on other models or you may see unknown issues. They are still listed as supported under these versions in release notes.

If the 2GB image really works it would be nice if we could find a copy of that firmware.

Can confirm 2GB image of 4.23.1 works on 7050qx-32-f.

Hi people, need some advice.

I got a DCS-7050QX-32S and bought a bunch of generic FS.com DACs but I can't get them to work, even after using a media unlock code. Do I need Arista branded ones and start paying 50 USD per cable more, or did I fudge up the unlock. Anybody got experience with generic FS.com DACs that do work?

there's an older unlock type and a newer unlock type, if you used the older one on newer EOS it won't work (the older being the touch /mnt/flash/enable3px method). The newer one you should be using is the "service unsupported-transceiver xxx" command. PM me if you want the latest firmware which might help

So it seems this is definitely not true, at least for the 7050qx-32s - perhaps it's true for the 7050qx-32? (non-S). the 32s perfectly runs the very latest EOS full image, even the 64-bit build:

Code:
show version

There's been so much conflicting information on what model will run what, I'm trying to personally confirm each model and compile a definitive list on what models will run what codetrain. Everytime someone posts release notes or a blurb saying one thing, I test it and find the complete opposite. This is mostly for me, I get a ton of requests for "the latest firmware" and half the time I have to dig through release notes and forum posts to figure out what that actually is

The tiny start of hopefully a long list:

7050qx-32s - will run very latest (at least 4.24), full builds, 64-bit builds included

What is the full model name of the switches you have? This is exactly what my post above is talking about - arista themselves claims the 7050 series will absolutely not run anything higher than 4.18.x, yet here we are End of Software Support for DCS-7050 series models - Arista
That link doesn't specify that the switches wont run anything higher than 4.19. It says that as of 4.19 Arista won't officially provide support for those models running later firmware. Those models are only DCS-7050S-52, DCS-7050S-64, DCS-7050T-52, DCS-7050T-64, DCS-7050T-36. Note the 7050Q is missing from that list.

EOS-2GB says:
These are reduced-size images that run only on older models of switches with two gigabytes of flash memory. Starting EOS version 4.22.0 and later, support for the 7150S series and 7050Q series products is available only in the EOS-2GB image (irrespective of the size of flash memory). Please refer to Field Notice 40 for further details. They are functionally identical to the full-sized images. If you use the 2GB image on an unsupported system, you may see undesirable behavior.

That field notice says: The systems listed in the affected platforms table are now supported in the reduced size EOS images known as EOS-2GB, with 4.22.0 and later releases. In the EOS version 4.22.0 and later, support for the above products is removed. The EOS-2GB images are functionally identical to the full-sized images but are optimized to support a limited set of platforms, which reduces the file size. Use of EOS-2GB on systems other than those listed may result in undesirable behavior.

Well, to be pedantic, it says the software itself dropped support for those models, not arista support/TAC. I've seen arista SEs say the same thing (it won't run) on arista's forum, but apparently it will just fine

It's nice to have confirmation the 2GB images are referring to flash size and not RAM, there have been posts absolutely everywhere including arista's forum and here that the 2GB limitation was regarding RAM. Still, I don't understand why they say the 7050QX requires the 2GB image, all the qx models I've encountered (S or otherwise) have had 4GB flash (USB DOMs to be specific)

Not sure what the flash size has to do with EOS loading. I've had 8GB DOMs in my 7050QX switches and I still can't get 4.22+ standard to load fully, while -2GB works fine. Guess they trimmed asic support on the 'larger' images.

It's the flash size, the problem is it assumes it has stock flash. I dug into the filesystem a while back and it's literally just a blacklist of models where it will refuse to boot the full image if it sees it's booting on one, it doesn't even bother to check the actual flash or partition size. I guess they didn't expect people to be ripping these open and replacing hardware. I started diffing the contents of the regular image and the 2gb image and it was just a lot of stuff heavy compressed in the 2gb image that wasn't compressed at all in the full image and some weird libraries missing. I didn't look super into it though

They've gone into production, running happily. We recently acquired our third (and a second /24 allocation). Slightly different model this time ; 7050SX-96. Previously we did MLAG/VLAN/OSPF; this box will receive the same config but we'll be adding a virtual router using KVM on top. Would it be possible to receive a recent firmware? (DM?)

I'd like to know if its possible to use non-arista DAC's from FS like the generic ones or Mellanox to save a few $?

I understand there was two methods to allow 3rd party DAC's however I can't find a definitive answer in this thread so I'm posted again.

I would like to use these for a Lab with some Chelsio T580 cards, does anybody have experience is this is reported working?
