Looking to get myself a switch with some PoE capabilities and the ability to link my desktop/server at 10gbps via fiber. I don't need 48 ports and the increased power consumption is wasteful.

Looking through the switch post at the top of the forum, this looks like a great choice for me, but I'm seeing lots of eBay switches that don't mention PoE.

It's there actually a ICX6450-24 and a ICX6450-24P? As in two seperate models? Because also, oddly, the 48P variant seems to be much cheaper and more widely available... I guess it was a more popular option for larger use customers..

Well I think that I need to find the "P" model, but perhaps I should have asked if it's obvious to tell from the front of the switch off it's a "P" version.

Many eBay sellers just list as 6450-24 but I suspect they may be the P.

IIRC the model number printed on the front of the chassis will include the 'P' if it's a PoE model.

It does include a P on the front of the chassis. You will find that currently there are not many listing for the 24 port POE version and the prices have gone up significantly.

Ok thank you very much for confirming that. That supports my suspicions...

Guess I'll just keep searching... Suppose there might be decent alternatives to look for as well.

Cheers

You might set up a couple of eBay searches for:

ICX6450-24p, ICX7250-24P, ICX6610-24P
4, 8, 16 10Gbe interfaces respectively.

And just in case the seller doesn't list things quite right:
ICX6450, ICX-7250, ICX6610 though you'll have to weed through things with those broad terms.

NB: the 6610 is louder than the 6450 or 7250 esp if it has Rev A PSU's. Two Rev B PSU's are quite tolerable however but it also depends on where the switch will live.

The mega-thread has anecdotal information on how good/bad the sound is for various configurations.
IMO its very much worth reading the first 3-4 pages of the thread. You'll find 90% of your questions answered therein.

Thanks itronin. Really the question I needed answered was how to identify from a picture. I should have just asked that in my first post.
