sfair,

I would be worried about moisture outside. The Rxxx Lines are designed to be indoors. However, If you want to stick one outside why not stick it DIY box of some sort. Like a DIY homedepot Electrical plastic gray box with your own small cutouts to run a cat5e/6 into it. I would do that if I was mounting one outside which I'll do that eventually. It's just good extra protection.

That won't help much with cold though, will it?
Will the R's just stop operating when its too cold or take damage (assuming the air in box is properly dehumidified with a pad or so)?

For me, I don't have to worry much about the cold since I live in California. However, for $40 each..... It's worth a try ...... to see how cold it can go.. Ruckus does make outdoor models for older ones like T300, but you'll be paying a lot more even on ebay.

Yes i know :) Not really outdoor-ish (except in California maybe;)), but I don't know what happens - and since i was talking about a 710 not one of the 500's i guess I'll not give it a try;)

i checked the manual and found the following.

Environmental Conditions
• Operating Temperature: 0°C - 50°C
• Operating Humidity: 10% - 95%
• non-condensing

https://www.ruckussecurity.com/datasheets/ds-zoneflex-r500.pdf
Thanks for the datasheet. I tried to find the specs earlier but had no such luck.

I looked up the specs for the current UAP-PRO I have had outside for a couple winters. I live in the thumb of Michigan and the AP is exposed to cold weather and humidity.

The UAP-PRO environmental conditions are:
Operating Temperature -10 to 70° C (14 to 158° F)
Operating Humidity 5 - 80%
Noncondensing

I'm not sure why I had it in my head that it should run fine outdoor. So far it's been reliable for the last couple of years.

I think I will still grab 3 or 4 R500 access points. I will maybe coat the units operating outdoors in conformal coating. on the other hand they are $40 and probably will be ok.

$160 is a good deal with current ebay pricing....better than what the r510 are selling. However in november I was able to snag 2x r610 for $150 each free shipping and 1x r610 for $135 free shipping. Then before that in sept I got 3x r710 for $185 plus free shipping. Used of course. Then even before that I got 3x r510 at $159 each open box from a Lennar home builder who probably got enough headaches from new home owners with the unleashed firmware bug on 200.7.x Those I gave away as Xmas gifts to family members and reflashed to 200.6.x

Good to know. Would you know where to get cheap mounting brackets for the r610?

PS- I would not even mind a printable .stl file, if it exist

I recently stumbled on a deal for a r610 and it works great with unleashed but it only came with the drop ceiling mount. I would also like to find a cheap bracket. Amazon had them for $25 last I checked.

All sold out now.... maybe they might get more in a few more months when large companies upgrade.

As for the wall/ceiling brackets it’s standard $25 or you can make your own. I have my clients get them since it’s easier for me to install vs making one.

however, I did find a place that sells them for almost $17, but not sure on shipping costs.

PROVANTAGE: Ruckus Wireless 902-0120-0000 Secure Meeting Bracket Zoneflex R710 Mounts

I never bought stuff from them so not sure of the reseller.

H510 is designed best for in room performance like hotel rooms or classrooms or a small conference room. I know in the spec sheet they left out the 64 different antenna patterns per band that is Normal on the ceiling mounted version. I’m guessing coverage isn’t great since it’s designed for rooms. At least, the H510 is wave 2 and will be supported by ruckus for a few more years while the r500 is EOL and the last unleashed software for it is 200.7.10.200.94. . The r500 will have much better coverage, and is wave 1.

There is a reason why r510 is more expensive than the H510.... if you wanted continues software support at least for a few more years , then I recommend R510 which can be purchased on eBay for $111-$150. r610 $135-$160. I just picked up a r610 for $149. You have to be more patient for the R610 on eBay for the right price.

Side note: I recently picked up a Unifi Nano HD for testing purposes a few days ago. And my initial impressions for raw performance speed is pretty good.

Thanks that's pretty much the exact kind of info I was looking for.
