I recently installed pfSense on a dedicated box with an i7-6700 and an I350-T4. Web browsing from a connected client is surprisingly sluggish/unresponsive. My previous router -- a ubiquiti ER-X -- felt snappier. Can anyone recommend a good benchmark for comparing the performance of these two? There's always iPerf, but from what I understand, it is mainly a bandwith measurement tool, whereas my issue seems related more to latency. Thanks!

It will be dependent upon what you are running and how PFSENSE is configured.

Just comparing router to router unless identically setup isn't too useful.

Maybe list what you're running in PFSENSE?
how much ram?
what's your internet connection?

Internet connection is Comcast Xfinity w/a Netgear CM500 cable modem.

The pfSense installation resides on a box with 40GB of RAM. As for configuration, DNS Server Settings (within System --> General Setup) are set to use cloudflare's resolvers, per the image below. Other than that, it's a stock/unmodified install.

The Ubiquiti ER-X router is also employing cloudflare DNS.
