Built a case frame to house 12x 5.25" drives

A client asked me to build a case frame to house a workstation motherboard (X9DR3-LN4F+ ) and 12x 5.25" drive bays. He plans on using all of the drive space for some hot swap cages.

That frame was $245 plus $20 to ship (fit disassembled in a USPS Large Flat Rate box).

No part of this looks like it required any CNC. Just whatever tool like a chop saw you'd normally use to cut an aluminum bar with and a screwdriver.

This is very useful information. I did not know there was a such box as the Priority Mail® Large Flat Rate Board Game Box.

I only used my CNC to accurately drill the standoffs and 5.25-inch mounting holes (many years ago, I had to layout and drill those holes by hand).

Oh. The backplate and PSU mounting plate were fabricated for us by CaseLabs (in 2017).

is double-wide for 2 systems (2 separate mainboards ) ??

if yes, why not making little space (5-10cm) in the middle - between mainboards ??

Judging by the backplate - it is still meant just for a single motherboard. So it is double-wide for twice the storage bays (and double PSU to support it).

You could probably save a bit by switching to a misumi brand 80/20 bar.
