IBM M5016 firmware questions

I just ordered an IBM Serveraid M5016 with cache, supercap and cables from eBay (China) for GBP46.

I believe that it can be run with the IBM firmware or the LSI firmware.

What are the advantages/disadvantages of:

1. Retaining IBM FW, updated to current level if necessary?
   
2. Cross-flashing to LSI firmware?

Is there a "howto" for doing this please?
