I wonder if the new revision is why these older systems are so cheap. Not complaining as these are perfect for our clients. Does anyone know which power supplies will work in these? I've heard all gen8/9 power supplies will but I don't want to order without some sort of confirmation.
here's the official list of models.

Not sure on the cross generational compatibility, that was something of Supermicro's wheelhouse generally.

For sure lower power with a single PSU.
I guess maybe also able to lower a bit if you use the 500w platinum PSU (865408-B21)

At that price I was just trying to resist, fee of those would make a great lab !

I just bought an e-2288g system before I found this deal and wish I had held off. Two of these would make a great inexpensive cluster. I'm trying to convince myself not to buy a second one even though I don't need it. There are a few retailers selling these for around the same price.

I usually convince myself this would make a great HA/DR cluster so I NEED 3 nodes. Then selling myself on 2 nodes is much easier. :)

Haha, yeah, I just need to find the extra 2k... I may pull a rabbit out of my hat before the sale expires. It looks like the DL385 Gen10 is also on sale for a grand with a weaker CPU and non caching SAS controller:

PROVANTAGE: HPE 878712-B21 HPE Proliant DL385 Gen10 EPYC 7251 8-Core 16GB 8LFF E208i-A 500W 3-Year

Has anyone used the 385? How does the fan noise compare tot he 325? Anywhere to purchase 2.5" to 25" drive sleds?
I would suggest that DL325 Rome system is a much better deal when it drops in price.

We have a DL385 Gen10 in the data center but never reviewed it. Dead DIMM channel.

I agree, that 325 is a much better deal for the hardware you get. I was looking into the 385 chassis simply for the possible noise reduction, both offer way more expand-ability than I need. Looks like the price is back down to about $1600 on provantage again.

Ok I can’t speak for the actual DL385 but I can speak for a comparison between the DL380 and DL360, the 2u DL380 at real idle after startup is surprising quiet when it’s just sitting in a table beside you (In an office space you don’t really notice with all other background noise like aircon, if it’s working hard or running thought the boot sequence you know it’s a servers for sure)
But as you can imagine the DL360 1u is a significantly louder proposition. Having said this a DL360 is dual intel scalable so not comparable to single AMD Rome but I would imagine not that different.

I have the same experience with some gen 5 DL380s and DL360s, and this seems to be pretty common between 1U and 2U servers that the 2U units have less fan noise.

I've seen that as well except for a recent DL360 I installed, it was damn near silent for some reason. I may end up with both a 385 and 325 just so I can swap the parts into the larger server.

Wow! That will be neat if 1U is as quiet as 2U--takes up less space too. :)

Does anyone know what it would take - price/part number's to make this 2x NVME and/or the 10x NVME part number?

G9 NVME upgrade cages seem way cost prohibitive - a 3 node cluster of these seems like a nice upgrade,,

My research says that this server (with addition of NVMe backplane P07019-001 - $230 or less) will support the NVMe. NVMe ports are already ON BOARD - connect cables(need to source) and go...

Also it seems that if its only 8x NVMe backplane - no additional fans or "performance fan package" is needed - only if going to 10x nvme with the addition of the the 2ff NVMe Enablement kit - which may come with the fans..

Care to share a model/type of AIC you used? Been wanting to experiment with NVME namespace carving - except my current HP G9's have hated every AIC configuration I've thrown at them so far.
I have used Optane 905P's and P3600's mostly.
