i'm not aware of the cmos even containing anything for the BMC or ipmi, so i highly doubt that your cmos reset did what you claim it did.

If it wasn't available on the network before, you might have a similar problem to mine with bad solder joints on something.
Pressing on the board to clear the cmos might have been enough to make contact again.

Or it just took a moment to boot and get onto the network.

But never the less, very nice that its the default and accessible.

Its was on the network could get the Ipmi login page, but could not log in.

I might just have been lucky

So with IPMI 3.30 I can boot with newest BIOS

WORKS:
Firmware Revision : 03.30
Firmware Build Time : 03/04/2016

Firmware Revision : 03.35
Firmware Build Time : 05/26/2016

BIOS:
BIOS Version : 3.2a
BIOS Build Time : 05/31/2019

Version: 3.40, 3.50, 3.51, 3.60, 3.65 and 3.72 will not boot the OS

I think this is the OEM version og the power supply, it have the pin out, don't know if we can use it

Strange as the X10SLE-F isn't included in those release notes.

Either the breakage was an unintended side effect (unlikely or I bet their customers would be howling) or they didn't mention the change of behaviour for the X10SLE-F because it didn't impact normal operations.

All the Supermicro magic happens in libimpi.so

I wonder if you could pull that from 3.35 and insert it into the cramfs of a newer version (>3.38) and it would still boot...

@hmartin the error message specifically mentions the "feature cable" which is also the same message I can remember it gave before doing the jumper-cables.

The obvious thing still missing on the connector side is the PMBus connection to the powersupplys and possibly Fan-control.

But I don't get how it suddenly would be mandatory.

With the help of @DanAnd I got my second card running, did the reset IPMI trick and updated it the newest working version 3.37

First i could not upgrade the bios from within the ipmi, keept saying "board id mismatch", fixed it by booting the board, after that I could upgrade from BIOS 1.1 to 3.2a

If you are still wondering what the base power-consumption of this board is, then here is a low power baseline:

I used a 60 watt external power supply (12V) which connects to a 160 watt tiny-psu clone ( NEW DC-ATX-160W MINI DC-ATX Inline Power Supply Module Board 24Pin 12V 160W | eBay ).

The Board specs:
Xeon E3-1220L V3 (2 Core + Hyperthreading at 13watt)
32 GB of RAM ( 4x 8GB PC3-14900E at 1.5V)
128GB Sandisk Sata6 SSD
Plus a 12cm fan which adds around 1,5watt
IPMI is connected to a switch
1 of 2 LAN ports are connected to a switch
VGA Display is actively running

Power-Consumption (At the wall):
Installed Ubuntu Linux 19.10 Server.
Highest Power-Consumption: 30 Watt (At boot)
Median Consumption: 22 Watt
Idling at: 15.5 Watt

Just using 2x 8GB:
-0.6 Watt

Using recommendations of PowerTop:
-1.4 Watt

As a final test:
E3-1220L V3
No (VGA/USB/SERIAL)-Console-Cable connected
Just 1x 8GB Ram
Sandisk Sata SSD
No Fan
Powertune activated all tunables
IPMI and one Ethernet-cable connected and active:

11.75 Watt

Turned off (but IPMI active):
3.8 Watt

Hey DanAnd, what's the speed of the 5th SATA port? The Supermicro specification for the board only mentions 4 SATA3 ports:

The 5th port is a different colour (at least on my board, the connector is black not white). Is it also on the same controller? (I know I could check myself, but since you already have 5 devices connected...)
I double-checked it today.
There are 4 SATA3 (6Gbps) which are working at full speed (My SSD shown around 500 mb/s)
1 Sata 2 (3Gbps) which allows my SSD to run at around 250 mb/s.

And there is another Sata2 Port in the chipset, which is not electrically connected and available, but inside Linux it is activated (and consumes power).

Still having 5 SATA Ports is quite nice. For a spinning rust hard drive the Sata2 port will be enough.

Cheers,
Daniel
