I've been waiting for this review, looks like a great chip. I keep going back and forth between the asrock x470d4u and a SM with the e-2288g. I don't think the x470's raid works in server 2019 so I may be "stuck" with the intel part. Does anyone know a good place to order one of these chips from? I'm in CA.

You may also want to look at the pre-built systems sometimes there are great discounts.

For the lower-end parts (4-6 cores) the E-2100 series on close-out pricing will be a great value.

Excellent idea, if you know of any deals let me know, I'll poke around. I think I've decided on the xeon as I know the intel raid will work and can email me if a drive fails. It's difficult to find 32GB udimms and boy are they expensive! RDIMMs would have made the platform even less expensive.

I've been looking into upgrading the oldest server in my 3-member cluster for a while now (a Haswell E3).

I'd like to use a Xeon E-2200 series on a Supermicro X11-SC*-F board. Will that even work? Supermicro is somewhat vague on the issue and officially supports the 2200 series on the "workstation" X11SCA(-F) only.

Has anyone here been stubborn enough to try a 2200 series in a "server" X11SCH-F yet? Did it work?

Edit: Never mind, STH just gave me the answer (being "yes with BIOS update")
