Any issues with this? Obviously I'll only get half the performance but the idea is to get the drives ordered while I can now and then this summer I'll be upgrading to new servers with SAS3 storage controllers that I can just move these SAS3 drives into.

SSDs?

I'm running a bunch of HGST He8 drives (12gbps SAS3 spinning rust) on a pair of H310s. No issues, but then I doubt I'd notice any issues or performance differences if the drives were linking up at just 3gbps.

Some Seagate SAS-3 HDDs have buggy firmware (with no fix that I'm aware of) that will not negotiate down to SAS-2. So, in that case, you are required to use a SAS-3 controller with them. I haven't had problems with HGST / WD SAS-3 drives with older SAS-2 hardware. I imagine Toshiba should be okay too, since they mostly share their tech with HGST.
