Can I replace offering of 400-ATMM of Dell SAS with Intel DC SSD P4610? Is this an upgrade?

Hi. In our office, we need to fulfill an order of Dell R440 Server with 4 units 400-ATMM drives. Since this item is not readily available where I'm at, is it an upgrade to provide Intel DC SSD P4610 instead? Will it work the same?

If I'm correct, it will function better than 400-ATMM drives of Dell, but may not be able to maximize the potential of the Intel DC SSD, correct?

Exact details of Dell 400-ATMM is
Dell 400-ATMM / 6V8VW 1.6TB 2.5-Inch SFF 12Gbps MLC HS 512e SAS Solid State Drive Kit DXD9H, PM1635a

Hope someone can reply asap. Thanks

Next issue, where to buy Dell caddy :D

No. One is SAS and the other NVMe. It's generally not something that can be dropped in as a replacement.

I am offering it as a better alternative. Is this possible? The server doesn't have any drives as of the moment.

If your hardware supports it, the Intel P4610 is considerably higher performance than the Samsung PM1635a.

Hardware is Dell R440. I suspect the backplane is 12 Gbps? I understand that there will be a limitation, and the most, it will be 12 Gbps?

The backplane has to support NVME, there are some that support 2-4 nvme drives in certain slots and sata/sas in others but it is not a given at all. Do not assume you can even plug in nvme drives... the R440 does appear to support up to 4 nvme drives, but may not do so without additional cables and cards.

If your backplane is SAS only, then NVMe SSDs will not be supported. You are probably best off having a sales representative at Dell or a reseller get you a working config since it sounds like you aren't that familiar with this sort of hardware.
