New LSI 9400 Series NVMe HBA

Hello all


I have testet 05-50065-00 Cable on LSI 9460 -16i and cannot find disks 2pcs. (Samsung PM1725a U.2 - 800GB).
Is there something else i have to pay attention to in order to find the disks?

I found the issue, i had to load proflie pciE in the controller options...

thanks for the info, what kind of board are you using? (and what was the exact option you had to enable in bios?)

i ask as i have 530-8i on the way , that i hope to flash to 9440-8i and will need to know this (im on a SM x10 board, so i HOPE it has this option in the bios, else i maybe dead in the water). thanks

Hello James,
I have a Supermicro X11DPH-T.
The option is hidden under controller management I think.
It is called "Profile" , you have to choose for example PciE4.
At the Moment I am at work and cannot look at it.

The Card work but you have to play with it ,i know it is time consuming & frustrating
I have 4 pcie , 2 pcie that recognize the Card , the other 2 pcie would fail to recognize the card , All 4 pcie is 3.1 &16x .
works on pcie 2 16x 8x
The other problem is install software , it recognize the card ,at other times it fails to recognize ,uninstall & reinstall software.
Card works well at Temp about 55"C , Card Fails at 100"C +
HDD need to reserve 20% = 12TB HDD ,uses 9 TB but reserve 3TB , - If you try writing above 9TB it fails to recognize HDD , this is a fun part ( take card out of pcie about a day or 2 then it recognize HDD or disconnect Battery a day or 2 , LSI authourity software set software RAID to JBOD vice-versa from JBOD back to RAID )
Have fun trying to get this piece of junk to work , it is nightmare .

did you try those 2 anothe pcie-slots with another card? nic or another sas controller?

maybe your those 2 pcie-slots are non working?

and for temparature issue's....mostly these cards are developed for use in server case's, with enough airflow. they say airflow of about 200 LFM.

search internet for converting lfm to cfm, or to m³/h

Now the fan are working 11000rpm ,116.5cfm , enough airflow in the server . the 9460-16i card now the temp is between 52"c - 68"c

Firmware is updated , new LSI authourity software windows based not in DOS mode , no update since then

i guess i have 9405-16i, using with sata-600 drives of 10tb under windows 10 64bit...no issue at all. my motherboard is asrock phantom gaming 6 threaripper x399 with cpu TR 1950x.

i dont have any experience with nvme, u.2 or sas drives.
and i always use 40x40x10mm fan on the metal cooling block of hba cards, keeping temperature at around 55°C
