Is there a recommended small/cheap m.2 drive for FreeNAS that would work with the SuperMicro X10SDV-4C-TLN2F?

I don’t have room for any more 2.5” SSDs in the case and SATA DOMs are like $50 for 8GB.

If it's just for a boot drive (and assuming you don't want to try booting off USB) any SATA or NVME drive should do perfectly fine; any dirt-cheap SATA drive should suffice although I'm not aware of any for anywhere significantly below $50. The 240GB WD Green sells here for about £25 which is pretty much as cheap as you can get SATA-wise.
