Try to force 56Gbe speed on the card and the switch and see if it is working.
With some DACs and optical transceivers auto-negotiation doesn't work at 56Gbe.
As far as I know all those mellanox cards are 56gig infiband and 40gig eth. I don't think you can get 56Gig eth out of one.

In one ESXi box I can only see 40Gbe max speed which I can select for a ConnectX-3. This is with ESXi default driver.
I don't have any 56Gbe DAC to see if it will change when connected to a 56Gbe capable switch.

So I got 56gb working with a ConnectX-3 using a DAC to the server. Anyone know what optics I can use to run to a different room though? Need a 75ft run.

I have
EMC 019-078-048 4x14G FDR FTL414QB2N-E5
and
Brocade 57-1000267-01 4x16G Xbr-000232
and they don't work.

It has been a while since I did my conversion. I am now in need of running eth mode but find my switch does not have VPI mode as several others posted here. For those of you have VPI enabled, how did you do it? I went back to the guide but could not find anything related. TIA!

Forgive me...first time working with eth mode: I cannot establish eth connection using the switch. The ports on the switch are set to eth mode; the host adapters (FreeNAS and a Windows server) are set to eth mode; Direct connection between the two hosts succeeded with the same cable. What am I missing?

attached is a screenshot of the port.

according your picture , you still in vpi mode, you need read the manual change part 3 into eth mode use clip command, or change cable

Sorry, I don't get it? I did change the port type of port 3 to ethernet mode, which the screenshot showed? And here is what I had for port type

Code:
Port Protocol Config
Port(s)
Type
 Apply

Port Type Info
     Protocol Ports
     InfiniBand 1/1, 1/2, 1/4, 1/5, 1/6, 1/7, 1/8, 1/9, 1/11, 1/12
     Ethernet 1/3, 1/10
I also tried to switch the whole switch to eth profile, no dice either.

As for the cable, I used exactly the same one as the one I used to connect the two hosts successfully?

Thanks for the suggestion on the manual. I was doing that to try to troubleshoot. But I found not much I can do since the CLI is not working as the manual described. For example, the manual says you run "configure terminal" to get to the config mode, which I am getting a command not found error...

Do you have a DHCP server or configured static IP's.
If so can you ping the server?
